Before somebody complains that movie #15 came out in 2005... I always use the very first release for each movie, which is 2004 for that movie.

"Released" at the Toronto Film Festival? That doesn't count. Certainly the Academy didn't think so. That's probably the most definitive authority (at least regarding non-foreign films).
