	Part of Alaska's Aleutian Islands fall along the other side of Longitude 180° which makes them lie in the Eastern Hemisphere.

	Too many questions call for Alaska as the answer. Furthermore, while I understand why you have Alaska listed as the easternmost state, it is only the farthest east by longitude, and not by direction of travel. You should specify the answers are determined by longitude and latitude.

	At least he validates and supports his reasoning, unlike most quiz creators when they make a mistake. There is nothing arbitrary about the idea that Alaska is the farthest east. You know as well as everyone else what latitude and longitude mean, so why are you acting like it was an unfair question?

	@rfoster03 - while I agree with the choice of Alaska as the easternmost state, it is completely arbitrary that Alaska is the easternmost. It was purely a human decision to decide to put the prime meridian where it is which ends up being the basis on which the hemispheres are divided. There is no physical reason for the prime meridian's location. However, bostnboy3 is incorrect that it depends on which split second you happen to be looking at the Earth. the halves of the Earth are constant not changing from the point of view of east/west as defined by man.

	I'd like to see this quiz done again with just the continental 48 states considered. The extremes of Alaska and Hawaii accounted for too many answers.

	While Alaska does fall across the 180 degree line, it does not cross the International Date Line. Therefore, the state furthest east is Maine because it is the first state to recognize the sunrise in the EAST. Alaska is simply very very far west, not east.

	Actually, Since a part of Alaska falls west of the 180 deg longitude, it is in the eastern hemisphere, so technically Alaska is the easternmost state. Thats being real nit picky though.

	@mdkid2012 -- your comment is exactly why I am ashamed I grew up in Maryland. Be rich with class and humility, please. Also the east/west thing is all relative. Just because the globe might be typically drawn with a little bit of Alaska in the Eastern Hemisphere, if we're taking a snapshot of the US separately from the rest of earth, I consider the Atlantic Coastline to be east and Alaska to be west, but that's just me.

	The positioning of the International Date Line to separate East from West is no more arbitrary than the drawing of the borders between states.

	Argue all you want about whether the lines between hemispheres are arbitrary or not(they are), they are generally accepted and not something that was invented for this quiz. Harassing the quiz writer for using generally accepted information is highly unreasonable.

	@Roentgen: well, since you say it, it must be true. @geo - no, it doesn't. It crosses 180 degrees - the date line jogs specifically to keep all of the US in the same day.
