That typo at the top threw me off. For a second, I wasn't sure if the quiz wanted counties or countries.

More quizzes like this please! I love having to mentally scan the entire globe continent by continent, then realizing I missed half the countries I said aloud (Egypt, Venezuela).

The country is the Vatican, the capital is Vatican City.

Ahhh I misread the title of the quiz and spent half of the time trying to think of countries that start with those letters. I was just staring at the columns thinking there can not be that many Y and Z countries, and I thought there were no X countries. haha

Yeah, I tried Yugoslavia to see if it would be a bonus, but if you start including old countries, how far back do you go?

Let's be honest everybody: who all did the quiz the first time exclusively guessing countries that BEGAN with x, y, and z? Since Zimbabwe, Yemen, and Zambia are the most guessed, I know I'm not alone.

@AJums: No, the country is Vatican City and the capital is Vatican City. The country's official name is State of the Vatican City. It's familiar name is Vatican City, and it has a Y in it.

I forgot the European countries that end in Y until the very end, then didn't have time to type the last one. Great quiz!

The convention that Sporcle follows is Vatican for the state and Vatican City for the city. However, since not everyone follows that convention I reckon Vatican City should at least be accepted as a bonus answer (as should FYRO Macedonia).

Actually, Sporcle accepts "Vatican" for "Vatican City," but it automatically rewrites the input provided by the user (vatican) as the actual name of the country (vatican city). Try it on the Countries of Europe quiz. Even if that weren't the case, Sporcle would be incorrect, and Brian would be correct. The name of the country is Vatican City, and should therefore be included in this quiz. And not as a bonus answer.

Did anybody else have trouble conceptualizing "Y". Z is easy because it's easy to notice, but I missed Germany, Italy, Egypt, Syria even after mentally scanning both central Europe and the near east in my head, both being areas I know fairly well.

@djiboutianclimax: You're right -- I never noticed that about the Countries of Europe quiz. However, the nation is called Vatican in Countries of the World, Capitals of Europe, Capitals of the World, Smallest Countries, Most Densely-Populated Countries, and possibly some others.

it's quite hard to mind all the consonants while going to the list of nations. Missed some countries I would normally not miss because I was searching for a y in switzerland and missed the z. on the other hand, I think FYROM should be an acceptable answer.

The name of the country is definitely Vatican City. FYR Macedonia is a difficult one because the only reason Macedonia uses the FYR prefix is due to an argument with Greece over the name Macedonia.

I agree that the Vatican City is the correct term and thus should be part of the quiz. FYROM however was a provisional name and has since been known by the Republic of Macedonia by most countries and so should not be included. Bonus answer perhaps though?

What about Zaire? I wasted a good amount of time typing it in several different ways thinking I was spelling it wrong. And Yes, I too wasted some time at the beginning thing it was only countries that began with x y and z

Kazakhstan is the one I can never remember how to spell for some reason. I manage to put the H in the wrong place fairly often. Last time I had to answer Kyrgyzstan I made a firm mental note on how to spell it. I tried Oz for a bonus just in case the writer had a loose screw similar to mine, but apparently not.

Yep, tried to guess countries BEGINING with X, Y, or Z. I even tried guessing countries that no longer exist since I knew there weren't that many countries that began in those letters. Then I assumed it was some sort of joke.

Vatican City isn't consisitent with every other sporcle quiz where it's only referred to as just Vatican. I think if Vatican City is an answer then FYR Macedonia should be too.

Thanks to Sporcle I can now spell Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Yastrzemski. Still have no idea how to spell Coach K yet.
