@SowCrates (very appropriate name!): There are also about 140 million Muslims in India — the third-largest population in the world after Indonesia and Pakistan.

@John L.: Montenegro only became independent in 2006; the data used in this quiz is from 2004.

@el barto: Most Muslims worldwide follow halal food standards, which do not allow the consumption of pork.

@Brian: Most Sporclers follow sarcasm standards, which do not allow oneself to be taken literally. :P Thought for today: if we have to euthanase all the pigs because of swine flu, will we eat Spork instead?

@ America, #1 has 1 billion more people than #2. The ratio of pig/person is about 1/3 in China compared to about 1/5 in the U.S, so it is pretty interesting. I can't help but wonder if when the pig population is important when calculating it in the U.S. I have to believe that there are more pigs in the US in March, April and May then by the late fall. I know I'll be playing my role in that reduction come the 4th of July

It would be fun to see the list compared to human population in each country. Then it would be more clear how piggy Denmark is.

I typed in Serbia and it didn't accept it. I remember all that delicious schnitzel in Germany, so I guessed lots of European countries--figured the Moslem countries and Israel were unlikely!

After playing all the other geography quizzes here, I typed in Denmark and was surprised to see no, "including Greenland". Then I realized how stupid I am, and how I spend way too much time on this site. :)

Wow, had no idea Belgium had so many pigs lol. I knew Denmark were fond of their pork... was slightly surprised that NZ and Aus are not on there. I bet NZ will pwn on a sheep quiz though =D I love that Mexico and Poland have EXACTLY the same number of pigs xD Agree that Serbia and Montenegro are in fact TWO countries, not one.

@lapper220 and others: Serbia and Montenegro was one country in 2004. The quiz takes either by itself for the answer.

Great timing Sporcle! I love how the quiz is pink, just like a stereotypical pig! @ Chemistry: Someone sent me an e-mail today that said "50 years ago people said an African man would be president when pigs fly. 100 days into Obama's presidency, Swine flu."

@America: To add on to what SowCrates said, Chinese also consume more pork per person than Americans do. According to the USDA, it's roughly 40.0 kg to 29.0 kg. Throw in the population difference between China and the US and it's no surprise that China has a lot more pigs than the US. Although, China has a little way to go to catch the EU; the average European consumes 43.9 kg per year.

Missed Taiwan and Myanmar. Needed more time to find. I've been smiling when I saw there were a 1 per 4 ratio in France ! We've got a whole region devoted for this (don't expect drinking fresh water in there)
