Why are Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland colored in?

And England should not be "England (UK)". There is no UK soccer team (except for the Olympics, IIRC). It is just England. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have their own separate teams. Also, "Korea Republic" and "Republic of Korea" should work for South Korea.

Good, timely quiz. But the shaded map makes it too easy. Maybe instead of the map, it should just have the rows for countries sorted by group?

Any American who doesn't get New Zealand's capital is clearly not watching the coverage on ESPN, because they must have said "There's a party in Wellington!" this morning about twenty times per minute. They beat that catchphrase to death so badly, you'd think you were watching "SportsCenter."

this needs to do a better job of coloring in the respective countries - Denmark is partly white on this map, and Serbia isn't colored in at all.

Haha yes Sobelberg, its been Canberra for over 100 years... I'm quite shocked I actually got so many, if they weren't coloured in on the map it wouldve made it alot harder. As usual, I couln't remember Pyongyang and couldn't spell Yamoussoukro

This is the only way this quiz should be taken: http://www.vuvuzela-time.co.uk/sporcle.com/games/worldcup_2010_geo.php It adds to the pressure, somewhat!

If you accept Cape Town as a capital of South Africa, Bloemfontein should be accepted too.

this is finally a sporcle quiz where all those people that have complained about the lack of england as a country can say "see? i told you so!." my response- it's not a country, it just has its own soccer/football team in FIFA and is recognized apart from its sovereign country (the UK), much like hong kong, aruba, puerto rico, and american samoa, to name a few.

There is no "Netherlands" football team playing in the World Cup. They play as Holland. Good quiz though. Loving the vuvuzelas: they almost drown out that flaming brass band that plays the theme from The Great Escape - endlessly - every time England get on the pitch (and then are rubbish).

The Netherlands do not play as Holland. Their badge includes the initials of their governing KNVB - Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond or Royal Dutch Football Association. As has been repeatedly mentioned on Sporcle, there is no sovereign country called Holland. There are two states in the Netherlands called Zuid-Holland and Noord-Holland. Between them they only constitute about 16.3% of the countries area and about 37.4% of its population. Many Dutch fans refer to their country as Holland when speaking to ignorant foreigners, and the name now often appears on merchandise.

Only on sporcle can 1 in 5 people know the capital of Honduras. I take that back, perhaps the rate may be better in Honduras.

Completely didn't see anything about capitals. I just saw "name the world cup countries" and played the game. Not even sure why the capitals are on there! But it's my fault for being foolish so I deserve to be voted down - just thought that it might account for some of the low "capital city" scores! :-

Nickisposh: I'm on nerd class in my college and here 7 of 20 know all the capitals of world :D. I also think the map makes this a bit too easy at least for an European. Well, because of you Americans that will be good. I pity you because you don't understand this great sport ;). Yes, I know I will be voted down.

dbcint, they met each other 4 times in qualifying. 3 ended in draws and South Korea won once. They won't have a chance to meet until the semi finals at least and that aint gonna happen.

@kypzethdurron: haha, i almost did the same thing. i thought i had almost got all the countries when i saw it was out of 64. How come Wellington is one of the least guessed? and why is it boring? I grew up in Wellington and now live in Auckland. Wellington is way better. If any of you have had the pleasure of going to Aucklands theme park Rainbow's End youll know why Wellington is better. hahah. Worst. Park. Ever.

Serbia should be shaded, not montenegro. Also, if South Africa has Pretoria and Cape Town, it should have Bloemfontein. I have a feeling this was rushed into publication without that much checking! And I know that I would have done terribly without the map! Thank you map makers!

On the cover of a section of the newspaper yesterday was a man's face with all these countries' flags painted on it. I don't watch soccer/football, but I remembered trying to name all the countries on the guy's face last night... that was a huge help. Then, it took me a second try at the quiz to learn the 5 or 6 capitals I didn't know and how to spell them. I hope I retain this so I do better on the world capitals quiz next time. VERY ENJOYABLE QUIZ!!!

The United States is currently the most named country - the only place we'll be coming in first relating to the World Cup.
