Couldn't remember how to spell the leaders for China or Japan, but even including them, I'd only have 9 of 26. And I consider myself a history buff.

Either the "G" answer should accept the "G" part of the name or it should not be the "G" answer.

Good game Booger. More shameful than my score is the fact that I haven't heard of most of these leaders before. The infamous ones are known, but I'm gonna ace this history test. Jeopardy here I come!

Shouldn't the B answer be listed as reigning in West Germany? Germany was divided then, wasn't it? Just to be pedantic (assuming I'm correct). :o)

Deng Xiaopang is incorrect per this quiz. Deng is his family name; sporcle has never before (to my knowledge) done an alphabetical quiz using someone's personal name towards the alphabet. He should be filed under D, not X.

these quizzes are too European-centric :P Just pokin fun at everyone who complains about American bias in the quizzes.

When I saw South Africa next to 'M', I was shocked when Nelson Mandela didn't work. Should have looked at the year first.

I think that's right about Deng - I'm not sure Victor Emannuel's name is really a last name per se, any more than Pople John Paul II's name is Paul: but I could be wrong about that.

de Gaulle starts with D. You wouldn't refer to him as "Gaulle".

I think De Gaulle was a stretch for "G", and provided a scenario where you could have found somebody else with a "G". Gandhi, whether you want to go with Mahatma or Indira. Gorbachev, but Boris Yeltsin was too tempting for the Y. Al Gore for Johnson...oh wait, nevermind. as for Deng...sure, maybe it's a reach...but hey, anything to satisfy that "X"!

I found that quiz almost impossible. I think it would be more popular had it not been done alphabetically, but rather done it on current leaders or those countries most famous leaders.

@Brian and Arlen: It's true that you wouldn't call him just `Gaulle' but `de Gaulle' is usually alphabetized under `G'. (Also, Mahatma Gandhi can't be a replacement because he was never a head of government or state.)

Fair enough about Deng: it's marked in the quiz as being outside the pattern and I'm not sure you'll find a genuine X. But Victor Emmanuel is just a two-part given name and shouldn't be there as `E'.

Yowser. Half the ones I did know I couldn't spell for the life of me. Only got 9 but gave up instead of stretching my brain more or trying more spellings.

Wow, I've never even heard of the 15 I didn't get. Are these all famous leaders, or are some of them obscure? I need to know whether I should be ashamed of myself!

LOL...I achieved the grand total of 4 (though I probably should have gotten Yeltsin)! I am at least pleased to be in the 1.3% to get David Lange, ex-PM of New Zealand (helps when you live there lol) Tough quiz!

No disrespect to LBJ, but out of all the presidents, you couldn't have done W for Washington, L for Lincoln, K for Kennedy, or even O for Obama? lol

Pete is right: Victor Emmanuel, or rather Vittorio Emanuele, is a double name.

Quite a nice quiz, but I'm disappointed by the general low scores on this score, it shows again the lack of historical knowledge on the internets.

Good point on West Germany, my bad. As for Xiaoping, the quiz does not specify that the names are last names only. I was aware that the name is his given name, but lo and behold, there were no world leaders with last names starting with "X". Although I could try to excuse Victor Emmanuel the same way, I agree that I would have been better off choosing someone else.

Really hard and only got 7. I thought that was rubbish but looking at the results graph it seems I'm a little ahead of the pack - nearly 50% can't name more than 4. Is this one of the hardest quizzes on Sporcle?
