| @Xizer: You're completely wrong about NATO. In fact, no NATO country recognizes Taiwan! (23 non-NATO countries do.) Less than half of the countries recognizing Kosovo are in NATO (21 out of 47) and not all NATO countries recognize Kosovo (21 out of 26). On the other hand, Abkhazia, South Ossetia are recognized only by each other and Russia, Nicaragua and Transnistria. As far as I can see (though I welcome corrections), Transnistria is not recognized by anybody other than Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
So, Taiwan and Kosovo are recognized by 23 and 47 very widely-recognized countries; Abkhazia, South Ossetia by two each and Transnistria by none. There is a dramatic difference there so please don't try to spin this as some kind of NATO-bias ganging up on everyone else. You're also completely wrong about Greenland and the nature of the Commonwealth of Nations. Greenland is an autonomous province of Denmark: it has its own government but is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Denmark is responsible for defence and foreign policy. The nations of the Commonwealth, however, are fully independent nations and are not part of the UK. They have their own independent armed forces and their own independent foreign policies. The nations of the Commonwealth share the Queen as their head of state; however, her role is almost entirely symbolic and she has no real power. |
