Good game, I think if you put them in alphabetical order it would be a lot better.

I'm confident this quiz is missing Ghana. Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong is an alpine skier from Ghana, and he's competing in the Vancouver games right now.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't include countries competing for the first time this year. I tried Ghana, Senegal, Cayman Islands, and Bermuda, all of which are in this year and none of which have won any medals. I think this quiz will have to be updated in about a week and a half.

Thank you brain, for, as usual, hanging me out to dry when I'm taking quizzes and have to remember countries. Good quiz from a terrible quiztaker.

how is it possible that Iceland has never won a medal? Don't those Scandanavians live for this stuff?

@Adamnvillain, you must've misspelled Senegal, because it's on there.

@jessbowen, Iceland has probably never won a medal due to the fact that they only have 319,000 people(doesn't always apply but more population=more chances for Olympians). I will give you that it is weird considering they're part of Scandinavia.

Iceland is actually not that preoccupied with wintersports, they are mostly into football and handball.

First time participants in 2010 are on as bonuses (I got two, Peru and Pakistan), as are non-sovereign entities (Hong Kong and Puerto Rico, for instance).

@jessbowen & @TracerBullet, Iceland is not a part of Scandinavia (Scandinavia is only Denmark, Sweden and Norway). But they are a part of the nordic countries.

So far as I know, there isn't an official definition of what countries are in Scandinavia. Norway, Denmark and Sweden are definitely part of it, but sometimes you'll see Finland included and sometimes you won't, and sometimes you'll see Iceland. Also, some people include the Faroe Islands, and others don't, even though they're part of Denmark.

I don't think that being part of Scandinavia is important. What's important is that the country has tons of ice and snow: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=65.164579,-18.94043&spn=7.73659,23.027344&t=h&z=5

@Jessbowen: "how is it possible that Iceland has never won a medal? Don't those Scandanavians live for this stuff?" Give us a break! We only come in at about 300.000 in total population so of course we aren't that strong in any sport. We're like an extremely thinly-populated city, and a small one at that!

In regards to what constitutes Scandinavia in the olympics- there isn't a "Scandinavian Team". The countries are individually represented and recognized by the IOC. It would be like if you said The Americas, rather than each indiv. country.

who they selected as bonus answers is bizarre. As mentioned previously the bonuses are the first time countries and not sovereign entities. The weird thing is that it is not all of them. For instance first time countries Peru and Pakistan make the list but not first timers Colombia and Serbia. Also non sovereign lands Honk Kong and Puerto Rico make the bonus section but not the Cayman Islands and Bermuda. It's just weird.

@GoonerLover66 -- read the title: "participated, but never won a medal". I doubt anyone from Sao Tome and Principe has ever showed up to a Winter Olympics.

Iceland isn't actually that icy (it's a trick used by the Norse that Iceland is green and Greenland is icy) Also, I'm a little surprised Nepal has never won a medal; you'd think they have good skiing there. And this must mean either Vatican City has won a medal or never participated. I'm really hoping it's the former, but sadly realize it's probably the latter.

You need to add Bermuda as one of the bonuses. The have participated in several Winter Olympics and have never won a medal.

@TJL I beleive sadly it is the latter. To my knowledge, no pope has ever entered the olympics.

Since when has Iceland been in Scandinavia?? Strictly speaking, Scandinavia= Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Finland is often lumped in with those three, due to its proximity, but Finnish is closer to Estonian and Hungarian than it is to true Scandinavian languages.
