Of all the funny things said by funny people over the years, this may be the greatest sketch in the history of comedy. Nice one, sporcle!

I'm surprised the shortstop was near the bottom. His name is given right at the end, so it should be well known.

Costello: So tell me the name of the guy in right field. Abbot: Nobody plays right field. ... And so begins the lost piece of the bit, and the tradition of having nobody in right field continues today.

This is the only comedy sketch I know of that I know word for word by heart (and therefore know what's coming) yet still laugh every time I hear it.

Most overrated comedy sketch in history. Dave Chappelle is much funnier.

Great sketch that will forever be remembered as a classic. Maybe it's just me but not as many classic sketches anymore in comedy. Don't get me wrong, there are good ones, but not as many that will be remembered as this one, Johnny Carson, etc...

Dave Chappelle isn't even as funny as Dane Cook, nevermind this all time classic.

Yes it is an all time classic. I don't think I've ever laughed at it though. A person's name is supposed to be I Don't Know? That's funny?

By the way, Chin Lung Hu has recently played shortstop for the Dodgers. Everytime he gets on base the brilliant announcers (no matter who they are) always make a crack about Hu's on first. Never fails. It's not funny there either.

Unlike Chappelle, you can watch this sketch with your children. If you have to explain the humor in this to people, they are beyond hope.

@jtrichey, the names aren't directly what's supposed to be funny, it's the play on words that's funny. When he asks "who's on first" and the response is "yes" and the confusion that ensues is the hilarity. If you don't find it funny then whatever, but that's what's supposed to be funny, not the mere fact that they have the names.

http://www.harryshearer.com/projects/radio/#the_credibility_gap - The Rock Concert version of this. "Who's on first?" "Yes." "So Yes is on first." "No, Who's on first!"

I remember hearing this about 10 years ago when I was in my mid-20s at the Baseball Hall of Fame. I was expecting it to be some moldy, tired old routine, but couldn't believe how funny it was. I was doubled over with laughter.

For the slow witted folks down arrowing my comment regarding Chapelle and Dane Cook, that was not meant as a Dane Cook compliment. It was meant as a Dave Chapelle insult. If you still want to down arrow it, go right ahead, just felt the need to clarify the intent.

Dave Chapelle is funnier than David Cook though (by quite a bit IMO), but neither has a single sketch funnier than who's on first. Anyway it's such a timeless piece.

@Emperor_Ziggy: Is that really a missing piece from the bit, or are you making that up? It is odd that there's no right fielder... Thanks, Sporcle. One of the best.
