HAHA... I just realized something. Read the second one in the list out-loud, saying all three columns. It'll sound like this: TWO, YOU TWO, ONE. Hilarious a band named U2 had a song called One. Hehe.

VH1's slogan used to be "Music First." This list proves that music is now 324th.

I got 75/100. I was trying hard to figure out Fiona Apple's name. I also had a hard time with the Dawson Creek songs.

The quiz has a bit of a flaw, in that typing "Boys" gives you several of the answers.

Somewhat surprising that VH1 didn't choose "As I Lay Me Down" for the artist at #58. I always consider that her best, but maybe it's just me.

Got 29. Considering I didn't start listening to music until this decade, and the music I listen to tends to be 70s and 80s, I'm rather impressed with myself. Couldn't remember #28's last name, that was embarrassing. Not nearly as embarrassing as forgetting #2 or #9, though. And no way is "Smells Like Teen Spirit" a better song than "One." I'm calling shenanigans on you, VH1.

I got about 75 to 80 before I had to cheat a little bit. I don't want to be called old yet since I was an adolescent in the 90, But my oh my this was actually a pretty diverse list. I did hear some of the ones I didn't answer, I just didn't know the name of the song.

@mungar - I like "Damn" better but on my copy of album it's "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover." I didn't recognize it without the rest of the title.

@ matt and punksurfer take it up with VH1, we all have favorite bands that played in the 1990's that didn't make this list...moving right alone, I know it was something something factory, but C + C music factory...I challenge you to come up with reasons for me to ever want or need to remember them. That being said, that song will always make me laugh no matter how awful it is, because I will always think of gay steel mills.

@Kevin: You're calling shenanigens because you think #1 and #2 should be the other way round? Not, say, because Hanson are at #20? I mean. Come on. etc.

@davidr - I called it because "One" is infinitely superior to "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Like I said, 90s music isn't so much my thing, so I'm less than qualified to critique the rest of the list.

#1 is a far more iconic song than #2 whether it's better or not is open to debate. #3 is a real shocker! It always alarms me how bland some people's choices are when given the choice of a whole decade's music! I suspect this poll was done from a list of just one song per artist, otherwise there would probably be more than one song from the likes of Nirvana, U2 & REM. I'm stunned over 2/3 of people didn't get Mariah Carey this is a US list & she's had a ludicrous number of US number 1 singles!

Yes! This is the single best quiz to come out on sporcle and it came out on my birthday!!!!!!!! Also, i thing that making you remember the song instead of the artist would make it a little bit more fun and challenging.

Where is Blind Melon - No Rain? Surely they jest that New Radicals - You get what you give is better. Or how about Deee-Lite - Groove is in the heart, the only reason people remember that song is because Beavis and Butthead had it in their show.
