London Calling is from the 70s. The album was released on December 14, 1979

LOL. The pinnacle of music? Anyone who says that can't even be taken seriously. Ever heard of the 60s?

80s was mostly garbage pop songs and electronic garbling. Ties with the past two decades for musical trashiness.

johnlk - looks like they are either going by when the song charted, or possibly the US release, which may not have been until 1980, though it's not clear from wikipedia.

98/100--Katrina and the Waves and The Romantics. This is the absolutely quintessential bad music list--it is completely and totally flawed, the ranking is terrible, yet I honestly watched this countdown continuously just so I could mock it as it was delivered.

#59 was recorded when he was still going by John Cougar so Cougar should be acceptable. #88 was recorded by Rufus w/Chaka Khan so Rufus should be accepted. For some reason you needed to type both the first and last names on #53 & #70

No one decade is the pinnacle of music. And to say the 80s sucked are pretty close minded. Groups like Sonic Youth, Pixies and The Pretenders were awesome. Electronic music is not trash. Michael Jackson and Prince were great pop musicians. The decade also was great for hip-hop in the latter part of it.

I'm also embarrassed by how many I got, considering I hate the 80s more than any other decade in music. And I even forgot about Cyndi Lauper.

@MovieDynamic - certainly, the sixties had the British Invasion, but the 80s, trash? Have you ever listened to U2?

Great quiz, but the "Year" column doesn't really look like years. I'm guessing it was meant to be "Rank".

for cheap lulz, go youtube the cameo video for "Word Up." Lavar Burton from Star Trek is in it, too. It's awesome. I'm proud I got ABC, also.

Great game! I think I would have preferred having the artists and guessing the songs. It probably would have been harder but more in line with other quizzes here at Sporcle.

One thing about 80's music, it was all about being happy, whichever genre you were into. The biggest teen angst we had back then was "Papa don't preach". Gotta love that !!

The 80s had some truly awesome music. Had some bad music too, but what decade doesn't? The list is pretty flawed though, admittedly. No songs by "The Cars?"

If I just typed in "Jackson" for Michael, I'm guessing I would have got Janet as well. Then again, if I hadn't typed in Michael, I doubt I would've got George. Perhaps I should stop Sporcling after a 6 hour road trip

The Snakes - Although that is true, their songs were released in the 80's. Not that I'd have expected those acts to have featured with it being an American list, but still, vastly superior to Gibson and New Kids.

OK, I got 82, and 82 is obviously a very good number. Yet I'm still upset with myself- I love 80s music, and I missed so many that, even if I don't love the song, I should've known the artist. I had no business missing Night Ranger or Cameo or Foreigner or Katrina and the Waves or Def f***ing Leppard. No business at all.
