4/14. Couldn't get any of those before 2000. This was rough.

There's no conceivable way anyone could get more than six without looking them up. No way. Personally, I got four- none of the A's I guessed were Velarde, but for some reason, I've always remembered Morandini.

I agree with kicking. Any infielder could be lucky enough to make an unassisted triple play.

I saw the last four and I jokingly thought "steroids." And then I saw the 20s. Were baserunners just morons back then?

4/14. I always remember Wambsganss was in the World Series, and Hansen was the "last" one all while I was growing up. I remembered Morandini, and guessed Tulo (but didn't get Cabrera the same way -- remembered Peralta in the Tribe's infield, but not Cabrera) I remember when Velarde did it, but couldn't come up with the name.

A follow-up on how difficult this is: Of the first 241 people, ten got all 14, but then zero got 12-13, two got 10-11, and two got 8-9. What this obviously means is that ten people cheated, while I envy four people who know more about baseball than I ever will (and I used to literally watch baseball for a living).

@kicking222: Does cheating include knowing 8-11, and then memorizing quickly the remaining 6-3 and entering these in first before they left short-term memory?

Ben: How about some of these... MLB All-Century Team, All-Time RBI Leaders, Highest Career Batting Averages, Highest Single Season Batting Averages, Players in the 30-30 Club, All-Time Stolen Bases Leaders, Players with the most Gold Gloves

Whoa - I've never even heard of any of these players. Except for George Burns, of course. Oh, that's not him? Okay, I've never heard of any of these players.

Justin, those are pretty good quizzes, so why don't you make them yourself? Come on, man, Ben's made some pretty good quizzes and you shouldn't be upset that there's one you aren't good at.

kicking - I disagree, as I got 9 without cheating. As an Indians fan I knew Ball and Wambsganns, I remembered Hansen was the only one between the 20s and 92, and I knew all of them from Morandini to Astro-Cab this last season. The other 5, I haven't even heard of any of those players except for Burns.

I think I only remembered Wambsganss because it was the only unassisted triple play recorded in a World Series game. Apart from that, I couldn't even begin to guess any of the names before 2000.

Lay off the guy. This is a site for quizzes, there is no order in which to make them necessarily. It does challenge your mind, doesn't it? Then it's fine

I'm not criticizing him. I'm just saying, in my opinion, that this quiz isn't very interesting and there are other more interesting quizzes that could have been made before this one. I'm just trying give some input.

Furcal and Tulo were the only ones I got. Tulo because I just remember the sportscasters talking about it, and Furcal because I'm a Braves fan and was watching that game when it happened.

I got 13 of 14, because I am a big dork, a historian who partakes in a retro league starting in the 1920's, and cannot spell Tulo's name. I used to know Wambsganss personally when he was in his 90's. Nice obscure quiz.

I saw Furcal's play, too. Was just flipping through the channels, and stopped to see how the Braves were doing -- this was "back when" August baseball had relevance in Atlanta -- and the play happened about 10 seconds later. Pretty cool. Furcal also hit the only walk-off home run I have ever seen in person, in the playoffs, no less.

Eric Bruntlett turned one today. I have no doubts that Sporcle will have it updated in the immediate future.

I used to know more of these. I will always remember Wambsganss because it was in the Series. Hansen, Morandini, and Velarde were ones I remember personally. For some reason, I remember Neun. But the rest I just drew a blank on.

heh The only one of these guys I ever even heard of was Ron Hansen - from my old baseball cards. Oh except for George Burns. I never knew that he used to play for the Red Sox. Wasn't he already too old in 1923 ? (straight face)

Pretty amazing that there was only one unassisted triple play in the span of 65 years and there have been 7 in my lifetime. Not to mention 5 in one decade and three straight years with the play occuring.

So how come nobody (including me) remembers the names of the (at most) fifteen poor saps who hit into unassisted triple plays!
