	I thought Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997 - and it never shows up as being an independent country on Sporcle quizzes! Anyone else think in terms of restaurants and takeaway places?!?

	I nearly forgot Pakistan there and simply left it at India. That was quite a surprising quiz. I bypassed Cyprus - I'd expected Greece so when that didn't show up I never would've imagined Cyprus.

	There have been significant changes since the last census. When the EU expanded into Eastern Europe in 2004, some estimates say that close on a million Poles and others came to the UK. A lot of them have gone back, now the economy's not in such good shape, but you still very often hear Eastern European languages being spoken on the street, which was very rare before 2004.

	@cottb: A little knowledge gets you most of the answers — all EU nationals have the right to live in any EU country; Britain used to have a large empire. Sure, you fill in the gaps by guessing but this is hardly a quiz of random countries.

	I was surprised that Poland and Cyprus were the only 2004 EU Expansion countries on here. Thinking about it, I suppose it makes sense as Poland is the only country from the ten with a large enough population. I was surprised that Turkey was so low, though.

Interesting to see the breakdown though, and strange how I never hear anybody complaining saying "Those American's coming over here taking our jobs" ;) We love you really America

	I got Ireland first, but I suppose I am biased, on account of living there. Interesting quiz, overall. Didn't expect to see so many countries that weren't part of the British empire at one point or another.

	Up to date data would be quite hard to find, the census is the most reliable source, unfortunately the last one was 8 years ago. Guess you'll have to wait another 2 years for the 2011 census for a more accurate game!

	@WLS: The Chinese population of the UK is very small — living here, you see a lot of Chinese restaurants but not many Chinese (or far-eastern, in general) people.

	uhh was gonna type in australia, and then probably new zealand with like two seconds left. Interesting to see how different it is from the US...America has way more Latins, and East Asian, and way less new Africans. 19/26

	@sammy: I would guess that since the criteria is place of birth, that Hong Kong was a unique territory at the time those 96,000 were born.

	Indeed, Hong Kong only rejoined China in 1997, so I guess anyone older than 12 would have been born in the independent (so to speak) Hong Kong.

	I started with EU countries and got a fair few, then I went to cricket nations and other countries that speak english, obviously China fits none of them, so I missed it, good quiz though

	@Denzil: But Hong Kong wasn't independent — it was a British colony. Now, you could also say that the Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis born before 1947 were also born in British colonies but at least those countries are now independent. Hong Kong went from being a British colony to being part of China and never became independent.
