I knew Alan Harper was a "back doctor", but couldn't remember the right word for it. Discounted pediatician, proctologist and obstetritian (and have probably misspelled all of those anyway)

Philip banks should be judge and lawyer, since he was both at different times in the show

I tried private investigator, which didn't work, so then sleuth, which also failed. Private eye finally got me detective.

Fun quiz - I managed to get all for the shows that I watch/ed. I even guessed some I don't. I would suggest that "private investigator" be allowed for Magnum, though :)

"Film maker" and "documentary film maker" should be accepted for Paul Buchman. And how about "maintenance man" for Schneider?

I tried janitor for Schneider but it didn't work. It took "super", which is what he always called himself. If I lived in an apartment with teenage daughters and someone like him kept walking in without knocking, I'd call the cops.

Agree that film maker should be taken for Paul Buchman and not taking private investigator for Magnum is really pretty silly.

Soooooo American! I haven't even heard of most of these and got most of them by randomly guessing professions. It took me so long to remember that the American term for Headmaster is Principal.

@WestWingerjd: It accepts `doctor' for that answer, which I guessed without even reading any of the clues.

@gopaladins: If the questions aren't in some sort of obvious order, it's probably the order in which the setter thought of them. So the easiest ones come first and the last few are, `Errr, who else can I put in to make a nice round number?'

@Zalx: He's invariable referred to on the show as `Principal Skinner'. Sure, it's an American term but you can't watch the Simpsons and not hear those two words together.

I hate to be repetitive but "detective" really doesn't make sense for Magnum P.I. A detective is typically someone who works for a law enforcement agency, not someone who works for hire as Magnum P.I. did.

If 'doctor' is accepted for obstetrician, why isn't is accepted for a 'psychiatrist'?

how is Private Investigator not good for Magnum, P.I.? or Radio Personality for the Disc Jockey one?

I tried 'radio host', 'radio star' and 'radio anchor' and still didn't get DJ, which wasn't great. Also, obstetricians and psychiatrists are both equally doctors, MDs. If putting 'doctor' in generally gets you one, it should get you both, because it implies that you no longer need to try medical specialties when stuff comes up from 'doctor'.

I'm really surprised at some of the results. I mean the Sopranos was on the air very recently and was really popular. You people need to stop studying geography so much and watch some TV.

@ David H - A private eye is also known as a private detective. Sherlock Holmes was a detective and he wasn't a cop.

@ westwinger - Cosby Show was the #1 show of its time and it's been popular in reruns ever since, so it's known by older people and young people alike, as opposed to The Simpsons, which an older person like me might not be as familiar with.
