| You know you're getting on towards 60 when the first TV doctors that come to mind are Drs. Kildare and Gillespie from "Dr. Kildare," Ben Casey and Dr. Zorba from "Ben Casey," Drs. Gannon and Lochner from "Medical Center," and Drs. Welby and Kiley from "Marcus Welby, M.D." Funny how those shows all featured the formula of wise, old doctor and young, bold and courageous doctor with a lot to learn. (I think that formula was adapted from the B-movie series featuring Drs. Kildare and Gillespie played by Lew Ayres and Lionel Barrymore, respectively.) Of course, the young doctor in all those TV series had to be handsome -- also part of the formula. |
