Great Quiz ^_^ Thanks! Still a bit rusty on the one-time winners in the 40's-60's but practice creates skills I guess :)

@Ben: "Impe" works, though it shouldn't, since his surname is, as you say, "Van Impe".

Perhaps the quiz could be extended back to 1903? You know...for even more names I don't remember!

Yeah but every winner in the history of Le Tour has, in fact, been Lance Armstrong wearing a disguise. ;-)

@davidr- He not only invented the bicycle, but also went on to direct, produce, and star in "tour de france" the musical ;)

Man, it's hard to get a good score if you acquire a complete mental block on how to spell Bernard H's surname! (There's an area of north London with a very similar name, which doesn't help.)

Great quiz - i was delighted with 40/62. Bar Coppi and Antequil I didn't have a clue until 1969.

I like the ones where three names get you to 17 straight away. :) Then I got three more, but they only got me to 20.

Thought Id do a little better. Armstrong, Indurain and LeMond were gimmies. Ullrich was a pure guess, and I finally got Mercx right before the buzzer. That was it.

Great quiz, sadly got them all (struggled with the Spanish guys from the most recent years!). Was amazed that less than 50% of people who tried the quiz didn't know King Eddy ever won the Tour. That's like not knowing that Pele won the World Cup or that Ali was World Heavyweight boxing champion!

Crackin quiz, but we need one for the Vuelta A Espana now. Maybe a World Championship one too?

A shame that more people remember Lemond, who of course was a good cyclist, than Merckx one of the all time greatest. Maybe due to the fact that this site is still a little too much US orientated.

why does Alberto Contador 2007 have 51,9% and Alberto Contador 2009 only 12,3% ???

I'm guessing because the quiz was orig pubished in 2008 and since then his 2009 win was added. So only has 12.3% of all attempts, even though it wasn't there for a considerable portion of them.

Riis was originally written out of the record books, but put back in in July 2008 with additional notes about his admittance of doping

I'm not trying to take away anything from Lance Armstrong but Eddy Merckx is and will always be the greatest cyclist of all time. He not only won his first tour when he was 24 but he is also the only rider ever to win all the jerseys in one tour. And, unlike Lance Armstrong he won all the other Grand Tours and races.

@xetcaf: I don't think anyone can really argue Armstrong was a better cyclist than Merckx. Armstrong's entire post-cancer career was about the Tour. Becuase of this, I think he is the best TdF rider, but he has nothing other than this.

Óscar Pereiro Sio is the full name of the 2006 winner, and Pereiro Sio should be a correct answer as well. Same holds for the other Spanish double last names, but for Pereiro it is shown in races more often (allthough sometimes it's Carlos Sastre Candil as well)

how come only 50% got merckx? he's the greatest road cyclist that ever lived. Armstrong only won the tour, Merckx won EVERYTHING!
