I got given "University of California - San Diego" for typing "San Diego" but nothing for typing "Los Angeles". Also I typed in "Boston" (my first reaction on seeing Massachusetts) and was not given Boston College. Only ten altogether, not exactly my strong point.

Fun quiz - surprised that I managed to get 39. Don't forget to give the little schools some love too - would also love to see the best liberal arts colleges made into a quiz someday http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/college/liberal-arts-search

My score was somewhat inflated by the fact that at least one of `[State] University', `[State] State University' or `[State] Tech' is an answer for most of the states mentioned. :-)

Today I found out why it is John"s" Hopkins University. "Johns" was originally the surname of his great-grandmother.

@raveneleni: `[State] tech' works for the one that's known as `[State] Tech'. The other two institutes of technology have different well-known abbreviations, which are accepted (though `[State] tech' isn't, in those cases).

@catherine and magister: Yeah, I go to Boston University, we're usually just out of the top 50 on this list. I also got typed and was rewarded for "uc irvine" "ucla" and "uc davis" but not for "uc santa barbara". Didn't think of san diego

First, BRANDEIS AT 31!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! My lovely alma mater is usually in the 33-35 range, so I'm pumped. It saddens me that that's the third least-answered school, but it doesn't bother or surprise me, since nobody seems to know we exist. Second, I got 41, and I'm pretty happy about that, but there's no real reason I couldn't have gotten 50 (though if I took it again, I'd still forget Case Western and RPI).

That was an interesting one. I got 39/50. I remembered a lot of them because I follow college basketball and football, so I recognize a lot of the teams. A bunch of them I've never thought would be in the top 50, like numbers 38-44.

When I meet people who do the same job as I do and they went to one of these schools I like to comment, "Wow! You must have gotten a much better job than I did!" That usually irritates them. Then I ask them how much their student loan payments are. That really drives them up the wall. Works the best on MIT or Georgia Tech grads (I'm an engineer from Auburn).

A lot of the people responsible for torpedoeing the US economy came from these very schools. So much for them producing the "best and the brightest".

I can't stand these college rankings. Are you saying that if I don't go to one of these universities I won't learn as much? I can say that is not how it goes. I think one takes out what he puts in to an education- not if he goes to a prestigious school or not.

For the California schools just put the abbreviation ala UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCD, UCI. Although for Berkley you can just put Cal.

Jessica Bowen - I think the military schools are on the top liberal arts college list. I know I saw at least a couple on there.
