	@Joe Ball: Why not, it had a theatrical release didn't it? Also I'd always though Bond was the number one franchise so I gotta admit I was surprised when it was second, although I feel Star Wars is a worthy opponent. Besides Bond is always gonna climb back to the top :-P unless they ever decide to stop making them that is.

	Terminator's actually making 3 new movies (2 more after Salvation) so they'll be pretty high on the list by the time they're done....assuming the new trilogy doesn't bomb, of course.

	I forgot about so many as others have said. Inflation is the reason as to why so many recent franchises are the highest grossing so that's why classic series like Back to the Future, Jaws, Godfather are not in there etc.

	@ MikeR, the Saw films have been great successes on low budgets, regularly taking around 80m in the US which is very good, however most blockbuster films in this list are taking well over 150 - 200 million mimimum

	@frey553: James Bond would probably be on top if you adjusted for inflation. As it is, the 1960s movies are effectively worthless in this chart because a movie ticket costs ten times as many dollars now as it did then.

	I cannot believe National Lampoon has not made this. Also: the "Mummy" Series? Who are the morons that watched more than one? Fortunately I made it to the last one before seeing any of them. Any movie that involves the Abominable Snowman coming to save you must have had a serious lapse in writing and plot. Saw it in Vietnam so at least it cost me less than the current home in LA.

	The Terminator series has grossed about $393 million. Horror movies generally have much smaller audiences than other types of movies.

	Jack Ryan was the hero of Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, and a few other movies. Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck all played him (I may be missing others), so the lack of continuity makes it not easily remembered as a series (I missed it, as well;)
