Got one: John Elway. Never heard of any of the others except for Glenn Davis, but only because of the other Glen Davis who plays basketball.

Got 8/25 only by random typing of well-known names. I can't believe I forgot Jim Thorpe (is that Jim Thorpe, right?)

@dan snyder: The Duke Lacrosse team was proven innocent (and I don't mean merely acquitted --- the accused members were proven innocent of the alleged rape) and the prosecutor was disbarred and convicted of criminal contempt. I am not a fan of Duke, in part because of the shameful way that the faculty and administration behaved during the 2006 scandal, but I am also not a fan of libel.

Once Tim Tebow leaves Florida and they make a new list he will be top 10 easily. If vince young is number 10. Tebow has to be around 5 when a new list is made.

@ dan synder too ... If I recall correclty, the attorney representing the woman had to resign from his position of DA because he tried to push this case so hard when it was clear that there was no evidence to convict the men. Didnt the state issue a formal apology for the way they were treated during all this?

I hated this list when ESPN put it together. 17 running backs on that list, 4 quarterbacks. No offensive linemen at all (John Hannah? Orlando Pace?). Apparently all those running backs blocked for themselves. Good quiz, though, ironically. If your historical knowledge is good, you can do well.

This quiz is great, especially if you're an insane college football fan like me. I was surprised at the amount of players from the early days. It kind of makes you feel that the sport isn't what it used to be.

I understand the game isn't what it used to be, but being a Badger, I remember hoping Ron Dayne would be on the list when they were revealing it. Yes, he's been a bust in the NFL, but he is the all-time leading rusher in college football. I feel like including Vince Young but not Dayne is a little harsh. Great quiz, though.

If you included Dayne, you'd have to include Ricky Williams as well. Better blocker, much better receiver, plus had nearly a full yard more per carry - Dayne broke the total yardage record because he got the ball something like 30 times a game for four years.

Hal...certainly there should be more linemen and defenders and fewer backs if it was a truly accurate list, but I am assuming it was put together to be shown on TV and/or in their magazine, so they need to pick more guys at skill positions to get more casual fans interested in it.

@Ash: The culture of college sports in the US is much different from that in England. For many, college [American] football is much more important than professional football, and that is also the case for college basketball (at least where I'm from as most can probably tell from the icon. And @dan snyder: seriously what the heck). I guess it's just different over here for one reason or another.

the, currently, 88.2% of people missing "Slingin" Sammy Baugh should be ashamed of themselves.

I got 22...my knowledge of pre-WW2 college football isn't that great. I do, however, love any college football quiz, and would greatly appreciate a national championships beyond merely BCS quiz. And to expand on the response to Ash: many U.S. regions don't have even potential to reach top flight athletic status due to the lack of promotion/relegation, so for those regions without even a glimmer of hope, there's college sports.

I have never, ever heard of ""Slingin" Sammy Baugh" before, so I would think the 12.1% of people who have should be happy for themselves. I'm more concerned about the 88.4% who missed George Gipp, and am only ashamed of somehow missing Archie Griffin.

These college lists always get too heavily biased by a player's fame from his pro career. Sanders at #2 is a joke, Ricky Williams had a better college career, and OJ. I saw all of Elway's home college games, he was great, but his career wasn't so good, no Heismann, and 5-6 his senior year (because of "The Play"), Nevers had a better college career than Elway.

I can't believe that 83% missed Dick Butkus. The guy was probably the greatest linebacker of all time and has a trophy named after him. I guess nobody watched Hang Time.

Fun game, but this list makes me freaking sick. SOOO awful. First of all, the omission of Tommie Frazier, who most consider to be the best college QB of all time is ridiculous. Next, how is it that Reggie Bush and Vince Young are both on this list and Young is ahead of Bush even though most of America voted for Reggie Bush as being a better player than Young the year they were both up for the heisman? I know Young had a good Rose Bowl and that happened after the Heisman voting, but one game makes him jump over Bush this much on this list? That is ridiculous. But, like I said, so is the fact that both of them are on here. No Marvin Jones from FSU? No Steve Emtman from Washington? No Bubba Smith from Mich St? and Charles Woodson is the 11th best college football player of all-time!?!? I saw a stat once that no heisman trophy winner touched the ball LESS than Charles Woodson. Did he have a good year? Yes. But He wasn't even one of the 10 best corners I've ever seen in college let alone one of the 11 greatest players period. If he was THAT good then people would have quit throwing at him and he wouldn't have been able to accumulate the statistics to win the heisman on the defensive side of the ball. RI-DIC-U-LOUS. Worst "sports list" of all time. Easy.

It is almost irresponsible. This list is sooo flawed, it is misleading as to factual history of the sport. Its a shame. George Gipp!?!? NO ONE would know who George Gipp is if it wasn't for the movie and the speech. THINK ABOUT THIS: This list says that Charles Woodson was a better college football player than JIM BROWN!! Whoever came up with this list should be asked for their resignation immediatley. AWFUL!!

@Ash: They don't get paid money, but most college players are on full or partial scholarships, which translates to a rather hefty sum of money, although legally they're not allowed to get any money or gifts or w/e for playing.

@Ash - It's also worth bearing in mind that many people in the US live a very long way from their nearest NFL team and therefore the college team is also their local team.

Tim Tebow. Give me a break. I'm gonna hurl. He throws left handed but throws like he is really right handed. When he throws the ball it looks like he is throwing with his non-dominant hand. Any one who says he is going to play QB in the NFL is high. Matt Leinart and Vince Young were both 1000x more equiped and apt to find success in the NFL than Tebow and how are those 2 doing? Not a chance in hell Florida fans. Get over it.
