Currently the best players tend not to stay in college, so I guess it's not too surprising. What current players would you think should be included who are not?

21/25, and I am very surprised that Bob Kurland from Oklahoma A&M was only known to 2.2% of the quiz takers.

Ralph Sampson won an award as the best player in college basketball three years straight, including two years when Michael Jordan was also playing. How is he only 18th?

Jordan is higher than Sampson because Jordan played on a team oriented squad. Of course, there was plenty of talent around him as well, but Sampson was the beginning and the end for UVa.

So why is Larry Bird so high? His teammates at Indiana State were worse than Sampson's guys at Virginia. A player should be judged by what he does, not by what he has to work with.

Hmmm,Bird took a small college who had NEVER even been in the NCAA tourney and just twice since,to the Nat'l Title game UNDEFEATED.A place Sampson never was.I say that IS being judged by what he did and it shows how great he actually was by his lack of help.Player of the Year is great but its just an award.I'm sure Blake Griffin would trade his P.O.Y. for a chance to be a champion.

Stop with the Ralph Sampson BS. He was the ultimate under achiever. Never did anything in the NCAA tournament and he was on the team that suffered the biggest upset in NCAA history.

What is TRUELY criminal is the omission of Danny Manning. The fact that he isn't in the top 10 is controversial. The fact that he isn't even on the list is just irresponsible. Michael Jordan had Scottie Pippen. Bird had McHale and Parish. Laettner had Hill and Hurley. Elway never won until he got Terrell Davis. Montant and Rice. I could go on and on.... Name me another player on a championship team in THE HISTORY OF TEAM SPORTS who was more esential to his team's success than Danny Manning. Take Danny Manning off of that team and they don't make the NIT let alone the NCAAs. Every single night you played Kansas you had to stop one guy. Danny Manning. Who else was going to beat you on that team? Scooter Barry? And they STILL won the National Title!! Danny Manning did what Kobe Bryant has been trying to prove he can do ever since Shaq left LA: Win it all with NO ONE else. No one. Larry Bird almost did it in college... Danny Manning did it. Magic Johnson had an all-american teammate in Greg Kelser. Alcindor and Walton had talent all around them. Robertson never won a title in college. Neither did Wilt! Danny Manning was Kevin Garnett before guys were going pro out of HS. Manning was what Garnett would have been had he gone to college. The fact that he isn't on this list infuriates me to no end.

#7 was pretty crucial to his teams success as well, but he never won a champioship. I repeat: No one ON A CHAMPIONSIP TEAM in the history of American sports was more critical to his team's success than Danny Manning. No one. But I am open to someone challenging me on that issue. Prove me wrong. Name me a champion in any team sports who was more dependant on one person than Kansas was of Danny Manning in 1988 and I will concede my position on the issue.

Much agreed on the Len Bias point. Just because he never ended up in the NBA (truly a sad story) shouldn't count against his amazing college career at Maryland

@ Ruan Utterback: No. Gerry McNamara won that national title game for them with his six 3 pointers. Hakim Warrick was also on that team. Danny Manning had no one close to the talent that Melo had around him his one year at Syracuse.

I agree with all of you people who are saying Bias should be on this list. He should. But he should be BELOW Danny Manning! That is how unjust it is that Manning is not on here. Not having Manning on the list is like having a list of the 25 greatest NFL QBs of all time and leaving Peyton Manning off the list. He should be that much of a no-brainer. I want to write ESPN a letter. Boggles my mind.

Somebody but me go google Danny Manning's college accomplishments and tell me doesn't belong on here even if he HADN'T single handedly taken a 6 seed to an NCAA title. That way I'm not the only one incredulous to this omission. If I were making this list he'd be in at number 6, 7, 8... somewhere right in there.
