Never would have guessed Game Informer would be on there, although I tried EGM in desperation at the end. Also surprised Time isn't higher.

Not that I have a particular penchant for Rolling Stone, but I have a hard time believing it loses out to some of these.

hi19hi19: That's why the AARP magazine is #1. A subscribed list would be interesting.

I would've been better, but I don't do these magazines. It's just that I forgot about all of these group magazines they send to every member of the group. I don't think a subscribed list is necessary, it's not like there aren't any subscribed mags on this list.

thevictor390: I suspect Game Informer's numbers are boosted thanks to promotional deals. I remember three or four years back, I let myself get talked into a store discount card for Software Etc., and a year's subscription to Game Informer was part of the package. I wouldn't be surprised to find out they're still doing that.

Does anyone get the feeling that Betty Friedan might be turning over in her grave over some of the more popular magazines?

It's sad that I remembered what my mom read when I was kid: Better Homes and Gardens, Good Housekeeping and Woman's Day. All that was missing was Redbook.

You're absolutely right, MRL (re: Gamestop) and they still do it. A few months ago, I traded in a bunch of games that I don't play anymore and with the leftover store credit (after buying a game), I got the magazine subscription for free. Funny, I guessed all of the "other notables" that Ben posted. Given her popularity, I'm surprised Oprah's magazine didn't make the list. Rolling Stone's extreme liberal bias may turn some people off and cost them readers who are moderates or conservatives, which could explain its absence from the list. Not saying it's right or wrong (they're entitled to their viewpoints) but it could be a factor. I was surprised that none of the big financial magazines (Money, Smart Money, Business Week, Fortune, Forbes, etal) made the list. Almost makes me want to get a subscription to one of them so I can get a leg up. In these tough economic times, I know I could use a little more financial knowledge, lol.

@Joe--as for the, uh, good/usable mags, people just aren't buying every issue--they are clinging to their old favourite copies from 8th grade. IT just doesn't translate into $$$.

I've been coming to this website for some time now and just decided to register due to your comment, John. I come to this site in order to expand my own intelligence and to acquire greater understanding about the world around me. My mother has subscribed to Southern Living for years. It is essentially a magazine that focuses on homes and gardens as well as travel in the region. The joke that the South is filled with rednecks is simply a tired one.

Don't worry cece, it was just that, a joke. I have family in Louisiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina you don’t have to worry about me being an ignorant person, just a little different sense of humor than yours. At least I got one more person to register.

Gotta agree with Antithesys on this one. Just because not everyone likes rolling stone, that dosn't mean that it shouldn't be on the list. It still get's pretty good circulation.

@Zach Harris: But it's a numbers game. Rolling Stone is simply not in the top 25 by circulation. This isn't a quiz about the quality of the magazine.

I'm surprised Parade isn't on here. I've heard it described as the most widely circulated magazine in the United States; Wikipedia says it has a circulation of 32 million and a readership of 71 million.

If this list is going to include magazines that you don't subscribe to (AARP and AAA mags) then I really don't understand how Parade isn't part of the list. As the above poster said, it's circulation is over 30 million.

I agree with hi19hi19 - some of these publications are just sent to you when you join the organization (AARP and the AAA titles). Don't think they should be compared to magazines to which people PAY to subscribe, since there's no real way to measure. Sure, all the members GET the magazines, but who knows how many of them actually read them.

Family Circle? Prevention?? Taste of Home????? Has ANYBODY heard of these magazines?? This is insane. Was I that naive in thinking that everybody read The Economist, Rolling Stone, ESPN, and even Vogue? I mean, if you go into a doctor's office, it's likely that you'll see only a very select few of these titles. I guess I totally overestimated the American public...

Being a retired Letter I knew AARP was number one, sad to see so many magazine dying out. I would have though Entertainment Weekly would have made it. It was a terrible day in Postal history when they started bagging the Playboys.
