	Nate Colbert was a minor star and the best player the Padres had to the point he played. He had a few All-Star seasons in the early 70's, but retired in 1976. Even if he had stayed healthy, though, he would probably only barely squeak by 300. And I'm not a Rays fan or anything, but Aubrey Huff? The same Aubrey Huff who talked about how he whacked it (and I'm not talking about the baseball) all the time on the road because he was bored? God, I hope Carlos Pena sticks around with them for a few more years.

	I'm a Marlins fan and it took me about a minute of thinking through everyone we had before I came to Lowell. Probably should have thought of him quicker, but he's behind Connine, Sheffield, Floyd, Millar, Cabrera, etc. in my mind.

	@DirtyKash: Or, you know, it could be because he isn't the statistical leader for either one of the teams he played for. Seriously, can't we get over this already? All the hits, home runs, etc. he has happened. They are historical fact. What would "erasing" them ever do? Nothing. It will just be tarnished by the fact that he played in an era where many players were using performance enhancing drugs and that he is the poster child for that era. Done. No erasing of records, no denying he ever existed - and this will be how it is regardless of what a senile Bud Selig says to the media about what he "might" do.

	I love quizzes like this, mostly players you know, but not a list one would typically ever look at. Racking your brain to think of guys that hit a lot of bombs for like, the Twins/Senators, etc.

	Yeah I typed in Gwynn first for the Padres, I knew he didn't hit a lot of home runs but he did play for San Diego 20 years so I figured 163 homers would be in his reach. Turns out his career high was 17 and he actually averaged under 7 home runs per year. The only other one I didn't get was Mike Lowell, I typed in Cabrera, Floyd, Conine, Sheffield, and Derek Lee and then I figured I was stumped. Hanley will have that record if he stays healthy in Florida for another 2 years.

	Colbert was famous for (I think) hitting 5 homers in 2 games once. ... JohnJF, agree completely. Musial was only a half-step behind Ted Williams as a hitter, a more well-rounded player, 3 MVPs, and he's still alive! But oft-overlooked. ... I love seeing the small-minded asterisk carriers start bleating in these comments.

	Knuckles: I think Musial is definitely underrated, but Williams was the greatest hitter ever. Don't forget he lost about 5 seasons to fighting in WWII and Korea. I believe he would have hit over 700 home runs had he not fought. He spent his prime flying planes in WWII, and the amazing thing is he came back and didn't miss a step, winning the MVP the next year. Also, Williams should have had at LEAST 4 MVPs, he won 2, but he won the Triple Crown twice and didn't win MVP either of those years because the media hated him.

	Journey2688, I understand typing Bonds at first, out of instinct, but then once you realize it wasn't him, it is pretty easy to think "oh yeah, he spent some time on the Pirates and the Giants have Mays who spent his whole career with the Giants (minus the last two years which was spent with the Mets)"

	Bosox, you are right that Williams's career totals would have been even more amazing without the lost war time. I won't argue Musial was as good a hitter, just that it's closer than most people realize, and with his advantages in defense and baserunning, overall he is probably only a sliver behind. The NL was also a tougher league than the AL by the 1950s.

	Well that is debatable about the AL vs NL in the 1950s, the Sox did have to play the Yankees, who were six time champions in the 60s, at least 20 times a season.

	Stan Musial also missed time due to war service. And even if you feel Williams is better than Musial, that's fine, but the fact is it isn't a complete blowout. Ted Williams was often labeled "the greatest hitter who ever lived." Stan Musial needed a writer's exemption to make the fan-voted All-Century team (while the considerably less qualified Ken Griffey Jr. and Pete Rose made it).

	Speaking for John: Pete Rose was certainly a very good player, and Hall worthy without the ethics breach. But a lot of his stats, including his hit totals, were amassed due to him playing many years beyond when he was a great asset. Rose had about a half-dozen great years, with many decent ones. Nearly every year Musial played he had an amazing year, and was way more valuable. Of course, I don't know the qualifications of being all-century, but if you asked me to take one of those three players, I'd take Musial every time, all else being equal.

	The Yankees were the class of the majors, but Williams also got to face Washington, St. Louis, and Philadelphia 66 times a season, who were pretty consistently terrible. The NL integrated much faster than the AL and was consequently a stronger league overall.

	Freakin' Nate Colbert. Lets quickly rattle off the number of players who spent time with the padres during some time in their careers shall we? I know most of these guys didn't play there long, but still... it is incredible that none of them hit more than 165 homers as a Padre: Tony Gwynn Fred McGriff Dave Winfield (who went into the Hall as a Padre if I'm not mistaken) Gary Sheffield Steve Garvey Greg Vaughn Sandy Alomar Jr Roberto Alomar Ken Caminiti (won an MVP with the Padres!) Derek Bell Benito Santiago Even guys like Ryan Klesko, Tony Fernandez, Phil Nevin... None of those guys hit 160 HRs at Padres!!! Goodness.

	Another good quiz would be single season HR records for each team. My Kansas City Royals hold the dubious honor of having the lowest single season record for any team and I'm not going to give away the answer until we get the quiz! Least guessed answer! Guaranteed!
