It's a shame that Puerto Rico isn't the 51st state yet.

Great idea! Maybe a little too much time. It's very easy to just copy and paste until you get them right.

@ HtomSirveaux. Keep in mind that a lot of people can't even name the 50 states.

I think I spent too much time trying to order them, starting in the northeast and working my way out, instead of cutting and pasting. I ran out of time with 7 to go. Remember that not everyone can type as fast as you professional sporclers.

Why not allow Puerto Rico as the 51st state? Their terrible economy would fit right in with the rest of the country and the U.S. official language is practically Spanish anyways. Bonus: Every member of Menudo would probably be elected to Congress.

Nice quiz. I think Puerto Rico will be #51 sometime in my life. The citizens of PR have voted down statehood everytime it's been put to a vote, but the margin keeps getting narrower...

Puerto Ricans actually have the best of both worlds right now: they're US citizens because it's a US territory, but because it's not a state they don't pay federal taxes. It will likely be a long while before popular opinion turns in favour of statehood (unless they suddenly really really want a vote in Congress!).

Phew...33 seconds left. Stupid West Virginia staying part of VA for so long! BTW, a true Sporcler would never need to copy/paste. :)

It seems that in every sporcle quiz where you guess states, Wyoming is last... last, last, last!

@jayprunkrawk That's why I said it should be shortened. So you couldn't copy and paste and only "true Sporclers" could get them all. It was cut from ten minutes after I said that.

@jaypunk--West Virginia was one of the easy ones in the middle. Any history buff knows it separated during the civil war so it could fight for the North.

Maybe it was just my computer, but when every I pressed tab enter (to go to the next one without having to use my mouse), it skipped one and went down two. I didn't notice this until about halfway through when I was wondering why the heck Illinois wasn't showing up.

something like this for when each European country formed would be very interesting, if a little difficult to nail down (for example, what year would you give France, which has had basically the same geographic outline for centuries, but has had numerous different governments.) Still, whatever brave soul makes it, I'll play it.

Nicely set up quiz. I liked having the map and each state get colored in when it was guessed. Well done.

@Mcory: The vast majority of Puerto Ricans do not want to be a state, and like their situation as it is now.

This is a trip through US history. 13 colonies of course. Then the early states, the Missouri Compromise era (one for north and south), westward expansion, and the tricky ones (West Virginia and Oklahoma come to mind).

I'm a little surprised that so many got all of the original 13 in order. I know Delaware was first(and being a Rhode Islander) that NC was 12th and RI 13th, but the others don't come naturally. Beginning with Vermont, there's a relatively logical progression.

Logic helped me get all these. The first 13 and last 2 were fairly easy, and it didn't take a genious to guess that the Dakotas were admitted on the same day. Then it's roughly west->east to the Mississippi river. After that, there was fortunately enough time to copy-paste the rest. San Francisco being big early, plus the "Oregon Trail" were all the clues I had for the last ones...

Neat quiz. Being from PA the first 3 came easy, somehow always new the 4th and the last 2 of the Original 13. Once I figured out the middle 7 I got moving. And yeah, if you know American history independent of statehood dates, you can still figure them out (like West Va as wasw mentioned).
