Good quiz, but the teaser needs to be fixed: "You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed...watch the playoffs on ESPN." ESPN doesn't have a contract with the NHL. The playoffs, in the U.S., will be on Versus and NBC.

Jets should be an alternate answer for Phoenix.

Porkle is doing essentially the same thing Burton is doing, yet Porkle is telling someone else to get a life. Oh, the irony. Nice quiz BTW.

I know the Islanders might be on here for a 'drought' since their last win but, that win was the last of 4 in a row. No other NHL team besides Montreal with 5 has that achievement.

I'm surprised the Sharks are there. I thought they were one of the best teams in the NHL.

I remember well as a boy the Islanders fans yelling "1940" before the Rangers won the Cup in 1994. Now its time for Rangers fans to yell "1983".

I agree with including the Jets or Whalers as alternatives for where those two teams are currently located.

@Chip Taco - The Whalers are now the Hurricanes, who won the cup a few years ago, but yes, I agree that the Jets should be acceptable.

Got them all. Coyotes/Jets should be an acceptable answer though.

Brandon: the Oilers actually didn't have 4 in a row - they won it in 1984, 85, 87, 88, and 90.

Ok quiz, I like that it's a hockey quiz, but it's too easy to guess the ones that you don't know by just guessing likely candidates(Teams that have never been good but aren't new.)

you think we can expand this quiz to include the Rangers...15 years is quite a long time...especially when the REAL hockey team in the area has won three cups since then.

@bdon - good call. I can't decide if I think it would be going to far to include all the former NHL teams that closed up shop completely. Those poor California Seals ...

@Erica: The Sharks are a very good team making it into the playoffs many times (I believe 12 or 13 times in their history). However, they can never get past the bigger playoff teams. In 2008 the lost to the Stars, 2007 the Red Wings, in 2006 the lost to the Oilers who went on to become Western Conference Champions, and in 2004 lost to the Flames who also was the Western Conference Champion.

@drhaase and jon: I hope they don't extend the list because then my Penguins (1991-92) will be added. But who knows, they might make that a mute point this year...

@MNSnowbird: that's true but lots of teams have had long droughts. This quiz is about teams that are currently have a drought going, the stars won a cup in 99 as the Dallas stars.

This is awful. The Coyotes? They were the Jets back then. That shouldn't work for this. And the Senators? Fix this.

A SCF appearance quiz would be cool. The Leafs would be numero uno on that one. :)

i think Ottawa should be up there, who cares if they folded, those Cups should still count. The quiz doesn't specify that.

Even if you add the Senators, it's still only a 23 year drought, which puts them 12th on the list- and 18 years behind the Leafs. I'm assuming the two people clamouring to have the Senators added are Leafs fans.
