I think if I had some of these names I would change my name. Kenneth is not a rappers name. And Clifford, isn't that a big red dog.

one thing is for sure: this quiz could have been a lot harder if you asked for the real name, not the stage name

It's already hard enough! I got 5... rap just isn't music most smart people like to listen to.

I am offended that this comes under the "music" category. Music = musical instruments Hip Hop = computers

One should have to match the stage name to actual name. Otherwise, the only challenge to this game is listing every rapper you know. Also, Kid Rock? Why?

@Whole Lotta Sporcle: hip hop does use an instrument: the voice. Was surprised no salt n pepa. Also maybe some Jodeci members in the sequel?

I don't know why I am surprised, but really ... only two female artists? Where are Lil' Kim, Missy Elliott, Da Brat, Eve, Trina, Foxy Brown, Salt n Pepa, and others?

@lulubelles: ok, apart from the voice, my point was that Rock, Classical, Reggae, whatever - they all have one thing HipHop doesnt have; guitars, drums, violins, cellos, trumpets - that sort of thing. @el barto: You have the right idea :D

I was also a bit bemused at the lack of female artists: it made the two that were there almost not worth guessing for. I could add Ms Dynamite, Rihanna, Ciara, Brandy...

@whole lotta sporcle: What is the criteria for what makes something an "instrument"? There are bands out there who create music from banging on trash cans and blowing on glass jugs. Also, creating a clean-sounding rap beat is just as difficult as learning to play guitar or any other instrument. And rap evolved from blues and jazz.

I spent five minutes typing every single permutation of "Lil' Romeo" I could think of for Percy Miller. This should, it seems to me, count, since the current USC Trojan shares the name Percy Miller with his (albeit more famous) father, Master P.

Disappointed by omission of Mike D, Ad-Rock, and MCA, aka the Beastie Boys. Other than that it wasn't bad, knew a few and then just started playing "How many rap artists can you name?". Too bad the other 2/3 of Run DMC (besides Reverend Run) weren't on the list either.

@Whole Lotta Sporcle: Are you kidding me? Listen to the music. You can hear drums in every song. That's the key: LISTEN to the music, don't whine about it.
