Serbia and Croatia I could understand, but I wonder why Kosovo and Montenegro would appear on more quizzes than the third answer on the list. Also interesting that the islands of North/Central America and the islands of Oceania each had just a single answer on this quiz.

@indyjeff: Smallest countries, island countries, least populous countries, etc.

You know what would also be a really interesting quiz? Countries that appear most/least frequently as BONUS answers.

This quiz is crazy difficult. Love the geography quizzes, but did very poorly on this one.

So are the least guessed answers on this quiz countries people never think of or countries they think they often think of? Or do we think we should think of them and therefore not think of them? I've either had too much to drink or not enough, I can't tell.

@Detektor: Timor-Leste and Cote d'Ivoire would have to be the top answers - they always seem to be bonus answers instead of real ones because we can never agree on what to call them!

Maybe that's why #1 is where it is, it's never actually on the quiz, it's always a bonus. I thought I saw that waaay more often than, say, senegal.

For each of these countries I can think of at least 4 quizzes they're in -- Countries of the World, Countries and Capitals, the continent quizzes, and some other like shortest name, doesn't have an A in the name, alternating vowels and consonants, etc....

I've typed "cote divoire" and felt proud of myself for knowing its real name enough times that this quiz is questionable to me. If it wasn't Sporcle itself that made it I would call foul, but as it is I'm just wondering how many country quizzes I've actually taken in the grand scheme of things. Way to make me feel existential, guys.

Being able to type almost all small/island/'usually never heard of' countries in 2 minutes and thus get all of these makes me feel kind of warm inside. And also makes me feel like I've played too many country related quizzes...

i still dont know what a bonus answer is. if lesotho works, what happened to swaziland. too unscientific for me. ivory coast mb 1st because 2 different names were used in the research. no burkina faso? it appears only once besides naming countries in africa. no, this quiz is unrequited.

Weird to see Niger on this list, because you normally have to write N-i-g-e-r for Nigeria. (The same thing applies to Dominica for Dominican Republic) Interesting quiz.

How many quizzes are there where the answers are Country names?? I guess these are ones that fall into the purely geographical quizzes but not into the ones like 'greatest number of chickens/pigs' 'highest/lowest population' 'biggest/smallest' etc etc etc. I like it, really makes you think.

@Noname - It's the amount of times they are guessed. It's how often they are answers to a quiz meaning that Niger goes into Nigeria is irrelevent quite frankly.

What really bothers me are quizzes where you have to type the whole entire name, e.g. "Bosnia and Herzegovina". But you know what? In the REAL WORLD a person NEVER hears the "and Herzegovina" part. So why do I have to type that on this quiz? In the same way, I'm sure "United States" is almost always an acceptable answer and a user never has to type "of America". **grump**

Other quizzes accept FYROM for Macedonia. It would be cool if this one did, too. It was accepted into the UN as 'the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia', and most of Europe calls it by that name due to a dispute with Greece.
