Quick pop quiz, who was the very first SNL host ever? (Hint: it's not on this list).
Dec 8th, 2008 at 20:10 GMT
snl is Saturday Night Live, a comedy show here in the states.

Easy one Robert...but I don't want to ruin it for others who might want to answer that question, so I'll just say that he died in June and has another quiz on this site about one of his routines.

Paul Simon has hosted 5 times I think
Dec 8th, 2008 at 20:32 GMT
Yes it was George Carlin.
Dec 8th, 2008 at 20:34 GMT
@shorts8617: Simon has been on the show a total of 12 times, but he has only hosted the show 4 times.
Dec 8th, 2008 at 20:35 GMT
Paul Simon was on SNL at least five times but mostly as a musical guest. He was on the skit when Tom Hanks joined the five timers but he didn't host it five times.
Dec 8th, 2008 at 20:37 GMT
On wikipedia it doesn't list him under the 5 timers but the list of individual show hosts has him hosting 5 different episodes (although one is the 100th episode so maybe something special happened)

Got 7. BM was the only one I didn't get who I would've even thought of. Good quiz! Maybe one for musical guests?
Dec 8th, 2008 at 21:09 GMT
I'd love a quiz on cast members. Would that be too unwieldy?
Dec 8th, 2008 at 22:38 GMT
there is already a quiz on cast members...
Dec 8th, 2008 at 23:43 GMT
Got more than half, so I'm happy. I'm upset about missing Candace Bergen, but I'm not sure why.
Dec 10th, 2008 at 00:25 GMT
"Candice" Bergen is correct.

I couldn't remember Buck Henry's name, but I could see his face....doesn't that count? ^_^

Paul Simon was in the "5 timers club" sketch, and as such, he deserves a mention here, if only as a bonus answer.
Mar 29th, 2011 at 10:53 GMT
Damn, I blanked on four of these: Henry, Murray, Bergen and Barrymore. I didn't realize Murray had hosted so many times.
May 1st, 2011 at 17:12 GMT
If you ask me, Emma Stone should host 15 more times.
Aug 28th, 2012 at 15:10 GMT
Showing my age but as someone who still fondly remembers the era of the Not Ready for Prime Time cast, there was a time when I really looked forward to the host, who was there bcoz he/she worked well w/cast and writers, had a flair for that kind of sketch comedy and simply loved hosting w/out having something new to promote. Too many times now the host seems to be there just to promote an upcoming or a recently opened succe$$ful film. (Applause sign now flashing).
