Good quiz, with only one quibble: I'm Canadian and I spell it "sulphur" in the British tradition.

is a rook in chess sometimes called a CASTLE? (if not, then no harm done; but if so, it belongs on the quiz)

@Eliot: Yes, it sometimes is. Though it's not as common as calling it a rook.

@Detektor: I'm American and I spelled it the same. I'm a confused person.

Pisces is not in the correct place for alphabetical order, which it appears the quiz is supposed to be in.

elements with one letter abbreviations: there are so many more. Hydrogen, Boron, Nitrogen, Fluorine, Potassium, Phosphorus, Vanadium, Yttrium, I think that's all of them. But otherwise pretty good.

@ theincredible hulk- i voted down your first comment. then i saw your second one, which i voted up. good save. also- clearly the "most missed" shows how few people know about movies (including myself- i missed all of them with my best guess being "titanic" until i realized titanic has 7 letters.)

Great quiz! Don't really care about my score, but wish I had more time to try to come up with more answers from my aging brain... too bad the time runs out before I'm ready for the fun to end!

The NFL teams category was tough for me (not really much into football) but wouldn't it have been even more of a challenge to have the team names with six letters NOT including the final "s"?

@detektor, officially the element is spelt with an f, originally the US spelling. It was supposed to be a trade-off for spelling Aluminium the correct British way, but that never seemed to catch on in America either.

be sure to watch the Academy Awards soon because you'll probably have to add "Avatar" to your list of movies (unfortunately)

The mind is a strange thing. I repeatedly rejected France in my mind, thinking it only had 5 letters. I also rejected Alaska, on a gut feeling it had more. Must have something to do with the number of syllables. I didn't bother to count letters in either case, because I was "sure." Doh.

Sulfur is a bit dodgy. Us english spell it SulPHur making it seven letters. Other then that I think I just had a mind blank and like penny kept dismissing France...

I always find the movie element in these quizzes makes them a bit too hard. It's easy enought to get the brain to recall all of the presidents or zodiac signs, etc., because there are a finite number of them; but to try to recall every best picture winner (not to mention recalling which ones have six letter names) is way too hard. I know there are a finite number of best picture winners too, but there are millions and millions of movies to cloud the brain. Just my two cents. Fun quiz.

@dudemanbearpig: I watched Ben-Hur last night and didn't get it either. Somebody finally explained it to me that the guy whose face you don't see? The one who keeps helping out Ben-Hur? It's Jesus!
I guess that should have been pretty darn obvious in retrospect.
Whew! Glad I could straighten that out for you. ;-)

How about "Bosnia" as a bonus? Sure, we've got the whole Herzegovina thing, but in common parlance, "Bosnia" is what it is.

Very nicely done! Including the movies does, as BCSwede pointed out, make it much harder--but in a GOOD way.

Managed to fill all the columns except NFL teams and movies but could you put a * next to the sulfur one because we Brits spell it differently and I couldn't work it out for ages.

33/59, was kicking myself after for not knowing some of the answers. Also, it would help if I could spell "Gandhi" right (I kept trying Ghandi!). Great quiz!
