ER has been on for 15 season, Beverly Hills 90210 for 10 seasons and 7th Heaven for 11 seasons

A Sitcom is also known as Situational Comedy... so ER and Beverly Hills 90201 do not fall into that category... sorry

Great quiz. I was hoping my namesake's show would be on the list, but it came up four months short.

Surprised Seinfeld wasn't on the list. How long was that on for? Or The Facts of Life or Bewitched. Probably not on for as long as I thought they were. What about Bonanza? That was on for like 14 seasons or something, that not a sitcom?

I can't believe The Andy Griffith Show is not on this list. As often as that thing is in reruns, I figured it was on for at least a decade.

@Elyse, T.Matthews: There's no formal definition, but the term "sitcom" generally refers to a half-hour comedy series with recurring characters and settings. See, for example, the Emmy awards, where "comedy" generally means "half-hour series" and "drama" generally means "hour-long series."

Yeah, there were several shows I thought would be here and weren't, including the ones already mentioned by Tim and Ernest. And I didn't really consider MST3K as a sitcom, but I suppose it is by a broad definition.

Ok... Bewitched was 8, Andy Griffith was 8, Bonanza wasnt a sitcom... otherwise we fixed a few things...

I agree raggedyanne. Not to defend Elyse's stupid comment, but looking at the shows on here, I don't MST3K qualifies anymore than the ones she mentioned. How is that a sitcom?

Good to see Seinfeld added. I hope there's going to be a U.K version of this quiz. We've had loads of long-running sitcoms, not all great though. Another idea could be along the lines of TV shows with the most episodes, or something like that.

Great quiz. Can't get that Facts of Life song out of my head. Anyway, I'm not sure "Love Boat" would qualify as a sitcom. It was an hour long show with so many heart hitting moments.

Damnit, I missed so many obvious ones! Boy, a lot of these shows fell into the nine seasons category. Gotta hand it to the Simpsons for lasting 20 seasons. I don't watch it as much as I used to, so I can't speak to the show's quality, but it's still quite impressive that it's lasted this long.

I think Annie meant "cartoons" and not "animated shows." How long was The Cosby show running for?

I'm a sitcom fan but only got 15. Got Simpsons but missed King Of The Hill and South Park. Couldn't believe Honeymooners and I Love Lucy weren't there.

The Honeymooners, despite its popularity, only ran for one season, and I Love Lucy lasted six.

Cosby ran eight, Will and Grace too. Hard to believe Facts of Life lasted longer than W&G.

I got 10, which is pretty good considering I'm from the UK. A UK version of this would be great, especially seeing as we've got the longest running sitcom in the world (although The Simpsons has had more episodes because US series are much longer).

Thanks for the updates, Ben, and great quiz. I wonder if anyone has an opinion about alphabetizing "tied" answers in these quizzes. It seems like some quizzes do that, and others do not. Personally, I like it when they're alphabetized, as it serves as a little hint when you've already filled in a few answers. But perhaps some of you prefer it this way, where it's a little more challenging?

I think this quiz could use a little more time, granted, I didn't get many, but still six minutes doesn't feel like its enough.

I think the Honeymooners was often just part of the Jackie Gleason Show. And maybe part of some other variety shows as well. I'm pretty sure it was around for more than one year, but perhaps it was only a stand-alone show for one season.

Interesting how very few of these longest running shows have children as main characters.

I don't think the Honeymooners made it to 60 episodes. And the UK would be really hard - do you define a show's running length by episodes aired or by years active? Because quite a few shows have taken multiple years off before filming another 'series'.

Why isn't saved by the bell on this list? In all it's different forms it seems like more than 9 years.

@Fnnkybutt, there's a reason for that. If the show focuses on children, it can only last while they are still children (normally).

Shouldn't Futurama technically count as 10 years running now? It just had 4 movies made into a series for sky and it has a new season in production...
