I can remember reading nearly all of these, but I couldn't remember the authors of many of them

Not bad. Knew 7, got another 4 by guessing famous writers.

A nice quiz. Seems somewhat of an oversight to not include something by du Maupassant, such as "The Necklace", but I know you can't include everyone. In the "short story, novellette, novella, novel" progression, tis true-- The Time Machine is technically a novella, though definitions of these terms still vary.

Good quiz. I'm mad at myself for not knowing - or at least guessing - the answer for Benjamin Button.

I didn't recognize many of these stories, but I recognized most of the authors because I had read some of their longer works

I like in the Simpsons when Homer looks in "The Lottery" to find tips on how to win the lottery. Once he finds out it is a short story having nothing to do with the lottery he throws the book in the fire.

I still remember just how freaked out I was when we finished reading The Lottery in middle school...

The Lottery has one of the all time greatest endings. I agree The Necklace should be included, but most probably couldn't spell the author's name.

It's nice to see that some of my education stuck with me. I can now dust off my English degree because it helped me with a Sporcle quiz. lol.

I know that the definition of short story is a bit ambiguous but I would consider Bartleby the Scrivener more of a short novel. It didn't seem much shorter than Goodbye, Mr. Chips.

This quiz does not accept the correct answer for "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County", which is "Samuel Langhorne Clemens". "Mark Twain" was just his pen name. I was surprised how many others I actually knew.

O. Henry is one of my all time favorite writers. I was surprised there was no Chekhov or Kafka - they both have some fantastic stories. At firls I thought it was be because the focus was American and Brit lit, but Balzac mad the cut, so I guess not.

A Good Man is Hard to Find is a great short story, I find it a lot more disturbing than the Lottery.

Every time I see a list of classic novels, I feel like the world's worst English major because I've barely scratched the surface. Then I see this list, and I realize it's because I read a ridiculous number of short stories in high school and college. Unfortunately, I couldn't recall more than half of the authors. To consider for next time: A Rose for Emily, The Story of an Hour, and The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas.

In my copy of the book, The Time Machine is 123 pages long. That must be longer than a short story.
