	Yes @ slw@hwdyk.com - "Abre les ojos" is how I know the original, as well as by its English translation. Also, and it's possible I'm losing it, but I recall 'Nikita' being "La Femme Nikita" in its version orginale. Otherwise, great sporcle - some re-makes I had always assumed as original! :)

	@slw One could ask the same of why Seven Samurai was used instead of Shichinin no samurai with most of the others using the foreign language name. For that matter Ringu. yes that's how it's very directly transliterated from リング due to the way Japanese works, but it's really just supposed to be Ring. In fact the movie was called Ring in most countries except America.

	Ah, 10/16, I'm pleased. But... Twelve Monkeys is not a remake of La Jetée, which is a short film (28 minutes). The story of 12M is inspired but elaborates on it.

	Um. A Fistful of Dollars (a.k.a. Per un pugno di dollari) is an Italian film. You know, a Spaghetti Western. The `Wild West' was actually Spain.

	Yeah, A Fistful of Dollars is in no way American except for the fact that Clint Eastwood's in it. It was originally in Italian, then dubbed back into English, hence why the words don't completely match up with the actors' mouths.

	This concept (English-language adaptations of non-English films) has a lot of potential, really. There are numerous remakes of French films, for example; perhaps a second quiz is in the works?

	Why did you use ringu instead of Juon? Though actually its pretty funny that anyone thought that there werent a lot of remakes of films. The samurai western connection is pretty famous and a lot of the movies don't work very well in thier native language if you have to read subtitles. I was surprised that there were so many asian titles that being said, but I guess that they are easier to hide with not having as well known an industry.

	"Swept Away" with Madonna is the Remake of "Travolti da un insolito destino nell'azzurro mare d'agosto", ok not a great movie but with a great scene with a wonderful song of Mazzy Star, "Fade into you".

	"Wings of Desire" is actually "Der Himmel über Berlin," but I suppose no one would have gotten it with that name. And for the record, "City of Angels" is possibly the worst movie I have ever been subjected to, if only because I love "Wings of Desire" so much.

	@Win - isn't Juon the Japanese for "The Grudge" rather than Ring? Also, I'm sure "Nikita" is meant to be "La Femme Nikita" - that's the version I have in the original French.

I saw La Totale on French TV and had no idea what it was (going to be) about. This was after I'd seen True Lies... came as quite a surprise! It's a pretty faithful remake, actually, and the original is quite funny.
