@Deepbite: I didn't spend all day researching it: it only took a few minutes. I remembered reading the article on snopes.com debunking the myth that somebody other than Washington was the first `President of the USA'; if I hadn't remembered that article, I probably wouldn't have said anything.
I didn't actually attempt the quiz, since I knew I'd score a big, fat zero — looking at the answers, only the name of Hancock is familiar to me, plus Hanson from the Snopes article. The list of names is the sort of obscure detail that I'm not really interested in learning (good subject for a quiz; just not my cup of tea) but I have a vague knowledge of the Continental Congress just from wondering how it was that the US declared independence in 1776 but didn't have a president until 1789. |
