| The reason I, and I assume most other Americans, use the term soccer is because that's what we grew up knowing it as. We probably generally prefer American football over association football for the same reason our friends across the pond prefer association--because you've been told to prefer it. I like both, personally, and I don't think liking one means you can't like the other. Also, the rest of the world does NOT call it football--only the rest of the English-speaking world outside of North America. |
