	I got 7, which slightly surprised me. Of course getting Man U gave me another, and the others I got were the "big ones" (translation: the clubs we see in the States) Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle. Dont get too many Hull-Wigan matches this side of the pond.

	Wow, harder than i thought it would be. Owen as captain = one of the reasons we got relegated, he's not exactly the most inspiring of people these days. Weird having put this up after the conclusion to the season, thus making it out of date immediately.

	The Villa captain is Martin Laursen, he retired end of this season through injury. Gareth Barry has been filling in till the end of the season (though he has in previous seasons been captain). No doubt if he doesnt go to Liverpool Barry will be named captain for 09/10 season.

	I think there should be a lot more Football quizes, with the amount of history at disposal! Premier league Top assists, Golden Boot winners etc. etc. - it's the only thing I can get top scores on! On another note - I is me, or do people still get offended when the American's call Football "soccer". I mean the whole basis of the most popular sport in the world is the use of the "foot" to kick the "ball" yet with "American Football" you only use your feet for Rugby esc conversions.

	@ kyle. I do find it offensive when American's disrespect football's popularity by believing that American Football is a superior sport and that football should be called soccer as it is inferior. As you say it is also silly that they should want to call it football as it is a game where the main object is to throw the ball.

	It took me about 2 minutes to gues the Man U captain. I hate United dearly, but I practically typed the entire starting 11 (plus Giggs and Scholes) before I got to Neville. West Brom, Newcastle (another moratory HA!), and Boro will have to be replaced with Burnley, Wolves, and Birmingham City.

	@kyle - actually the origins of the term football is based on the fact that when it was first invented it was played on foot with a ball at a time when most sports were played on horseback! However, association football was invented long before gridiron and hence should have full naming rights. I hope Sepp Blatter sues NFL!

	@Rhys: Americans and Australians call association football `soccer' not because they believe it to be inferior but because they use the word `football' to refer to other games. Since they talk about those games more often, it makes sense to use a simpler phrase for them. An American saying `soccer' to an Englishman is any more offensive or disrespectful than an Englishman talking to an American about the `boot' of his `car'.

	@TeabagYokel: The precise etymology of `football' — beyond the fact that it obviously has something to do with feet and balls — is uncertain. The competing theories are that either refers to kicking the ball or playing while on foot rather than on horseback, but there's no compelling evidence to support one idea over the other.

	'Soccer' is English in origin. From the public schools, don't you know? In the time when there was no agreement even in England over what code of the game you meant if you said 'football', the main competing forms were Association Football (soccer) and Rugby Football (rugger). I'm all for having a go at the Americans ;-P but we can't blame them for this.

	Translating for our American viewers, when a British person says `public school', they mean what, in the U.S., would be a `private school'. The British terminology is: state schools are run by the government; public schools are privately run but anyone can attend (subject to being able to afford the fees and maybe pass an entrance exam); private schools are privately run and attendance is limited. I'm not sure if there are any private schools any more but an example would be a school run by a company for their employees' children only.

	@ TeabagYokel - American football was created when some people decided to have a play around with the rules of Rugby Football sometime in the mid 19th century. The only reason the football part is there is because of the game it was based on. If you think about it there would have been plenty of other games played with balls whilst on your feet; football, rugby, gaelic football. All of which would have been exported to the US.

	The reason I, and I assume most other Americans, use the term soccer is because that's what we grew up knowing it as. We probably generally prefer American football over association football for the same reason our friends across the pond prefer association--because you've been told to prefer it. I like both, personally, and I don't think liking one means you can't like the other. Also, the rest of the world does NOT call it football--only the rest of the English-speaking world outside of North America.
