a quiz for best actor winners would also be pretty cool

Best Actor (and Actress) winners would definitely be neat. Also fun would be a single quiz for all Best Picture winners, rather than splitting it into two.

agreed with chodanutz: it's pretty pedantic (and actually pretty strange) to require Godfather part 2 to be written in as "Godfather part" + the letter i twice! Could that be changed to allow more options, please?

Of the ones from 1997 onwards, Titanic is pretty much a gimme. I would've been happy to get everything from 2003 onwards but apparently I haven't been paying close enough attention. The Oscars are a joke these days anyway

"Deer hunter" didn't work, and I agree Godfather 2 and similar forms should be acceptable. Otherwise interesting! I complete forgot about Driving Miss Daisy, that was a nice movie.

Yeah the Godfather, Part 2 is quite ridicoulous ... I had to put in "THE GODFATHER, PART II" for it to work. It didnt even go in without the The

I can do this in 1:27. Small suggestion, Slumdog Millionaire won at the 2009 Oscars, not 2008 (despite being released in 2008). So all the years here are one year behind, to be accurate.

I missed one, because my memory insisted on confusing The Last Emperor with Empire of the Sun. Oh well.

@NightPrince Technically it was the 2008 Oscars, since all the nominated movies were released in 2008, regardless of the fact that the ceremony was held in '09. The given years are the correct ones.

No, the last Oscars held were officially named the 2009 Oscars. Look it up.

These are the winners for their respective years. The ceremony has to be held after the year to make it official. So Slumdog Millionaire received the best picture in 2009 because it was the best picture of 2008. The movie awarded in 2010 will be the representative for this year, which isn't complete yet.

It will be called the 2010 Oscars however. So if a question came up in a quiz, "Which film won the 2008 Oscars?" the correct answer would be No Country For Old Men, NOT Slumdog Millionaire.

Kramer vs. Kramer? Must have been a slow movie year in 1979

NightPrince: I completely agree, just not with you. The 2008 Best Picture winner is Slumdog Millionaire, regardless of the title of the telecast. Look it up. It won best picture for the cinema year of 2008. Movies released in 2009 are not eligible for the '09 show. It was therefore, the best picture of 2008--given the award in early 2009.

@nightprince: The official position of AMPAS (the Academy) is that the award is named for the year of release, not the year of the ceremony. See oscar.org. Hence Slumdog is the 2008 winner. Yes it's confusing, but oh well.

It is still an injustice to the world that Shakespeare in Love won over Saving Private Ryan in '98.

@Kazbar The fact that it beat Apocalypse Now is a travesty. Granted, I prefer All That Jazz to all of them, but I *know* I'm in the minority.

Well I pretty much bombed that. DId anyone else have trouble remembering winners just because it's what should have one in your opinion? I must've typed Saving Private Ryan and Goodfellas a dozen times before realizing that they didn't win.

I would have got all of them if Kramer v Kramer or kramer versus kramer had been accepted. Did not think of putting Kramer vs. Kramer. This one question left a bad taste.

This was hard for me because I know most of the nominees for every year and some of the winners are so undeserving I put in the movies that should have won first. Cost me some time. Terms of Endearment was by far the hardest. That was a poor year for american films.

I was trying to do them all in reverse order - 2009, 2008, 2007, etc., but I obviously wasn't thinking, because when I got to 1974, I realized it was going to be mighty difficult to get that answer in before 1972's best picture showed up :)

I can't believe Driving Miss Daisy won over so many great movies! Glory, Born on the Fourth of July, My left Foot, Field of Dreams, Do the Right Thing, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Dead Poet's Society, Henry V. Personally, Miss Daisy is the owrst films of all those I have listed.

@BumblebeeUk it won the award in 2011, but those Oscar's were for the 2010 movie season.

For these popular quizzes that change every year it would make so much more sense for them to refresh the statistics every time a new one comes along. Or at least assign them a guess stat of 50%
