Two clear bonus options are D for deuterium and T for tritium. :)

Those isotopes would take too heavy a toll on most users' chemistry knowledge . . . You dislike my pun? 2H his own . . .

very funny julian but i don't think the isotopes have letter symbols, i think they have a + or - in the superscript and besides, it could be argued that isotopes arent elements like a ham and cheese sandwhich without cheese is not a ham and cheese sandwhich

@deepbite I hate to get all chemistry teacher on you but I think you're getting confused with ions. Deuterium and tritium do have regularly used isotopic symbols, although they are still hydrogen. Anyway, Julian deserves promoting for his dreadful puns.

I remember my chemistry teacher put Diamond on a "name the symbol" test. About half the class fell for it and put D.

Deepbite, deuterium and tritium are certainly special isotopes. And he is saying as a bonus, not like they should be included outright. Also, I don't care much for calling this quiz one letter "abbreviations". They are symbols.

I like that the answers appear in a random order, not alphabetically or by chemical number.

@DEEJ: If you're going to allow yourself technetium, you may as well use bismuth (Bi) instead of boron and iodine.

to walton, "oxygen neon hydrogen uranium neodymium rhenium deuterium phosphorus erbium cerium nitrogen tungsten! :) Never knew I was 1337 in chemistry! (apologies for deuterium...but I couldn't write it without)" Deuterium is 2-H; it is an isotope of hydrogen, also known as heavy hydrogen or hydrogen-2...
