Wouldn't yachting and sailing be close enough to the same? Also I tried Field Hockey with no credit. I'm sure we're not talking the ice, air, or the little guys in the bubble varieties.

Why does "hockey" count, but "field hockey" doesn't? That would be like counting "football", but not "soccer".

Also, 'Equestrian' is counted, but not 'dressage', 'three-day eventing' or 'show jumping'.

the rowing and canoe kind of confused me on this quiz. I would associate canoeing more with rowing than kayaking. Yet when I answered canoeing Kayak came up, which led me to believe that rowing was covered.

Drhaase, I get that you would think rowing might be covered by the other two, but the list comes from the official Olympic website. Personally, I think canoeing and kayaking are more similar because they both use free paddles while rowing uses oars held in place by in oarlocks.

Actually trampoline is a separate medal event in the Olympics. Take a look at the Artistic Gymnastics game.

This would be a great quiz if it was designed correctly. The quiz doesn't take accept trampolining. However, I didn't bother trying any other version as has been explained by other people the letter T isn't traditionally between the letters G and H. I accept it's a mistake on the Beijing website but it's poor for this quiz designer not to notice this. Also Synchronised Swimming isn't accepted which it should be.

What happened to Javaline? or Hammer throwing, or high jump, or long jump?, and more? Are they part of the pentathlon? or?

Javelin, Hammer throw, High Jump and Long jump fall under athletics. Those who don't have Ice call it Hockey rather than Field Hockey.. Canoe/Kayak is the discipline... The creator got it mostly right (however I think Waterpolo/Diving/Swimming all fall under Aquatics)

In most of the world 'hockey' is field hockey and 'ice hockey' is what they play in the NHL.

I wonder why modern pentathalon and triathalon are separate from athletics when none of the other track & field events are? Please allow field hockey!

Re Jessbowen: You can't put either of those in athletics as they involve disciplines not covered by athletics, e.g. fencing, horse riding, swimming. Trampoling really threw me as everything else was alphabetical.

hoboman: skeet is one type of shooting, only. There's also another type named "trap" and also shooting with handguns (don't know what it's officially called though) I had misspelled "equestrian" every time...and "horse riding" did not count. 24 is an OK score...but how could I miss tennis, water polo or fencing! I feel stupid

who knew that so many of the events that are mainly shown on tv (at least in the western contries) i.e. all the running (track and field, marathon, ...speed walking...etc) is grouped into "athletics"

It's crazy that 'field hockey' is not accepted. Even if most countries just call it hockey, the US term should also be accepted.

sox: Synchronised Swimming is the British spelling. Both variations (the Z and S) are used on the Web page devoted to the sport on the Beijing Olympic site. http://en.beijing2008.cn/sports/synchronizedswimming/index.shtml
