There are a lot of other NYC bridges--Verrazano, Throggs Neck, etc.

No love for the bridges of Staten Island? Those are NYC bridges, too.

Exactly - there are many other NYC bridges - all these involve Manhattan which is a small part (area-wise) of NYC...

Also, Midtown Tunnel should be accepted for Queens Midtown Tunnel, as that is what is mostly known as

True, but the quiz says "Can you name the bridges and tunnels of NYC?" not "Can you name the bridges and tunnels of Manhattan?"

Changed the description to reflect that these are just the manhattan bridges. If there is sufficient interest, we will do a more comprehensive NYC water crossing quiz to bridge the gaps in this one.

Wow, I only got five, and I live fifteen miles from Manhattan. That was rough. And this is a nitpick, so I really don't care if it's added or not, but nobody calls it the "George Washington Bridge" it's the "GW", and that's it, so I'd like to see that accepted.

Good idea for a quiz but I agree with above commenters, if you're doing the bridges and tunnels of Manhattan, do all the bridges and tunnels, including those in northern Manhattan (i.e. Henry Hudson, Broadway, Macombs Dam, etc.).

@kicking: actually, i think quite a significant part of the country, and probably almost everyone not living in/working in manhattan call it the George Washington Bridge. Not to mention, for international people, I would doubt if anyone calls it the GW

Agree with cls121389 about the midtown tunnel, and both GW and George Washington should be accepted -- that should please everyone.

Ditto on the Midtown Tunnel, no one calls it the Queens Midtown Tunnel. And if you're accepting "59th Street" for the Queensboro (as well you should), you should accept "59th St." as well.

@Kicking: Granted, I'm an upstater, but I've always heard that bridge called "the GWB" not just "GW"

Puse and mwmw named some of the other bridges in upper Manhattan: Madison Ave, 145 St, Macombs Dam, Henry Hudson, Broadway. There are also University Heights, Washington (not to be confused with the GW), and Alexander Hamilton bridges. Plus the High Bridge, which is no longer used.

@kwestaia: The initials 'GWB' bring up too many bad memories. Therefore it should not count.

you gotta add the Henry Hudson Bridge...any bridge that charges 3 bucks to get across is a bridge that is worthy enough for this quiz in my book.

When did they change the name of the Triboro Bridge to the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge?

only thing i learned from this was the full name of the midtown tunnel. Being that three people have already brought this up, why has it not been changed to accept "midtown tunnel?"

seriously, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge is the longest and one of the most recognizable bridges in the city. I don't care what you're limiting this to; it's gotta be there.

@Brad: The Triboro was renamed the RFK Bridge in November 08.

Even if you're just doing Manhattan car bridges and tunnels, you're missing the Madison Avenue Bridge, the 145th Street Bridge, the Macombs Dam Bridge, the Washington Bridge (distinct from the George Washington Bridge), the University Heights Bridge, the Broadway Bridge and the Henry Hudson Bridge.

@ Josh. How about High Bridge? I'm thinking of the one that goes from Bronx to Manhattan right before you go into the GWB.

Lots of missing ones. I would accept that the quiz was only using the "major" bridges, but if that's the case I'm not sure why Third Ave and Willis Ave are on there. And I definitely think it would have been fun to have all the water crossings into NYC, up to and including the Outerbridge Crossing.

Brad, the Triboro was changed to the RFK some time last year. I have the feeling it's not going to catch on for a long time.

I really think a sequel involving all of the bridges and tunnels of NYC is in order. That would include little known gems like the Koskiusco and the Marine Parkway. As it is almost all of the Harlem River crossings are missing (High Bridge, Washington, Hamilton, swing bridges.) Also, I petition all New Yorkers to "Avenue of the Americas' the 'RFK' Bridge.

Honorable mentions for Throg's Neck, Whitestone, and whatever that bridge is called on the BQE just before the LIE... the Some-Polish-name-I-can't-pronounce-let-alone-spell Bridge? (Oh hang on the poster above mentioned that one, the Koskiusco.) Greater NY also has the Goethals and Outerbridge going from Staten Island to Jersey.

Nobody calls it the RFK. Everybody calls it the Queens-Midtown. This isn't even all the bridges in Manhattan. Not a big fan.

you guys missed one bridge out of manhattan into the bronx. The Henry Hudson bridge north of the Cloisers on the Henry Hudson Parkway. I guess that would count as a crossing out of manhattan, no?
