Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island should be taken off the list because they have the Patriots.

The Patriots play in Massachusetts. Just because they go by "New England" doesn't mean all of those states are one state.

Supernuke, it's about where the teams are physically located, not their fan base. In that case you forgot Connecticut (also a part of New England) and places like Kansas, for Kansas City teams, and Virginia, for DC teams.

Man college teams make this so much harder! I didn't even think to include Nebraska b/c they have such a huge college football team

So basically the Deep south, the smaller New England states, and the Big Sky states are outta luck.

Basically, you just have to guess all of the states w/o major cities.

most of these states have never even had a team in the past either, im pretty sure only two of them have had franchises post-1950 (KC-Omaha Kings (NBA) and Hartford Whalers (NHL))

It does kind of turn into a "name all the states" quiz. Maybe if there was an error counter like on the "pi" quiz that ended the game after a certain number of wrong answers. That would get people to consider their answers more instead of just trying them all.

Don't you think Las Vegas is now populous enough to support a major sports team? If you can people away from the tables and brothels, that is. Or maybe combine gambling, sports and a little extracurricular activity under one roof? Hmm...

@The Joker: If Virginia got a team it would either be a DC team moving to Northern Virginia (Like the Giants and Jets with Jersey) or a team relocating to Virginia Beach-Norfolk, Richmond will never have a pro sports team.

Was I the only dork to notice that first four states to vote in Presidential primaries (Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada) have a combined number of zero pro sports teams?

@GoldenBo: That would be like giving the Jets to New York, which they don't because they sadly play about twelve feet within the state of New Jersey, mainly to dodge the infamously high NY taxes.

@geowiz85, if you go way back, Providence had an NFL and an NBA team. Louisville had an NFL team too. Wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple of others. @jawa88, I'm a Husker fan, and even I think that's a lame comment.

Umm . . . quiztaker? Vermont is the smallest New England state? Aren't you kinda forgetting a couple there? You know, Rhode Island? Connecticut? As for Massachusetts being the largest . . . Does Maine count as a New England state? That one I'm really not sure about, but if it does . . . .

I was responding to a matter of state size, not whether they should have a team. Places with teams need to be places where people will go to see the team, which is why they tend to be in major cities. Simple as that.

@jawa88 - Don't let everyone get you down by giving you the red arrow. I know what you're saying. I have to remind myself sometimes that Nebraska is a college football team and not a pro team at times. They are so good, so respected, and have dominated the college football universe for so long that... its like... they are in a league all their own. More wins than any other school since 1970! And its not even close! There's no place... like Nebraska. GO BIG RED!!!
