This quiz was awesome. Practicing the continent quizzes might actually hurt you in this quiz.

"Faeroe Islands" should be accepted for "Faroe Islands". Great quiz idea.

As one poster said, Turks and Caicos.... and you could throw us a bone and allow "macao" for macau. I have never seen it spelled with a U before.

I'm not sure Chinese Taipei should be an answer. Chinese Taipei is just the name Taiwan uses for international competitions so that they can have the word "China" in their name, but Taiwan is recognized as a country by pretty much everyone except mainland China.

Guadeloupe and Martinique have FIFA teams and they aren't countries, shouldn't they count too?

Wales: those are non-FIFA, but CONCACAF-affiliated members.

LucasEwalt: Taiwan enters FIFA competitions as "Chinese Taipei", meaning that Chinese Taipei is the correct answer. Also, Taiwan is pretty much NOT recognised as a country by pretty much everyone.

Some of those countries also compete by themselves in the Olympics: Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Turks & Caicos, Palestine, Guam, Netherlands Antilles, Cayman Islands and American Samoa.

kevincrumbs: Even NASA recognize Taiwan as a separate country. Very few countries openly deny the sovereignty of Taiwan.

^ NASA? You know that's an agency of the US government, right? That's the worst example you could possibly come up with. Most countries treat Taiwan as independent, but very few have official diplomatic relations with them.

For the longest time (and potentially still) the People's Republic of China wouldn't have diplomatic relations with anyone who recognized Taiwan as a country. When given the choice between relations with the PRC or Taiwan, most countries choose the one that's a global superpower.

@Lucas Ewalt: `Chinese Taipei' absolutely should be an answer! Taiwan is a member of FIFA under that name, but not a member of the UN under any name. In fact, only around 25 countries give diplomatic recognition to Taiwan. China has a policy of refusing diplomatic relations with any country that recognizes Taiwan and, for most countries (including, for example, the USA, the UK, Russia and Japan), it's much more important to have diplomatic relations with China than with Taiwan.

why are people complaining about Olympic competitors and sovereignty - none of the regions/nations in this quiz represent themselves with a seat at the U.N. (that IS the question!) There are a few missing such as French overseas departments and collectivities such as Martinique and Guadeloupe, and Tahiti should be accepted as French Polynesia (since Tahiti is only one island is that territory).

@mdunne: There aren't any missing: Martinique and Guadeloupe aren't members of FIFA. And the FIFA member is specifically Tahiti, not French Polynesia as a whole.

Taiwan may be recognized by several countries, but it is not in the United Nations. It does have a FIFA team, and is known as Chinese Taipei.

I made a quiz listing the CONCACAF(North and Central American) teams and that was the only reason I did OK on this. It was only then I realised the obscurity of some of these footballing "nations". Also as has been mentioned earlier some have football teams but are not FIFA members such as Guadaloupe or Martinique but are members of CONCACAF.

My bad. I wasn't reading the 'recognized by the UN' part close enough. I was basically just going off of whether or not it was an answer in the 'countries of the world' quiz on here... which I suppose has very little international influence :)

If you look at the official site of the Tahiti football team it says that it represents the whole of French Polynesia, so it should count.
