I don't want to make any grand political claims on Sporcle or anything, but you don't often hear about these countries being attacked by others.

@davidr: I was moreso referring to terrorism (and how after 9/11 American conservatives claimed the attack was because the military wasn't big enough), but a valid point.

Interesting quiz. Alphabetical list is fine but I think it would have been nice to have the option of having them ranked by population.

apparently 'Iceland does have a 30-person peacekeeping unit, operated by the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs.' (i don't claim this is a military force i just think it's interesting. are they not just police?)

I missed Haiti and the Solomon Islands and was surprised about it; I thought most would have some need of an army to keep their own countries stable.

@SPU: I'm sure the fact that Haiti is completely unstable has a lot to do with why they have no military.

Does Somalia have an official national military? How is that possible, given that there is pretty much no recognized Somali government?

@davidr - Thanks, I did know that. For some reason, the distinction disappeared in my mind. Maybe because they have to have served in the Swiss military first.

@ared: It's not so much Central America that has defense treaties with the USA- for example, Costa Rica's pacifism dates back to the end of its civil war- rather, several Pacific island nations lice the Marshall Islands are in a Compact of Free Association with America. But hey, if it helped you :)

@Chaim M.K.: Somalia has a recognized government and an army. It's just that that government and army don't have much control over the country.

@Jack: No army here on Iceland. We have I think 2 ships in the coast guard. @JohnJF: Well, we might not have an army but still we were at war with Britain (which we won thank you very much). But you're right about terrorism. The worst we've seen is milk products slashed on government buildings.
