| @faber: That continued into the 80s. The guy who was taken first in 1980 was selected ahead of Denis Savard, Larry Murphy, and Paul Coffey, who went third, fourth, and sixth. In 1982, Scott Stevens and Phil Housley went fifth and sixth, and were better picks than that bust of a defenseman who went first. 1983 may have been the worst. Right after the North Stars first overall pick went: Sylvain Turgeon, Pat LaFontaine, Steve Yzerman, Tom Barrasso, John MacLean, Russ Courtnall. Slightly later in that first round went Cam Neely and Dave Gagner. Sixth and ninth in 1986 were Vincent Damphousse and Brian Leetch too. |
