Not sure, but I typed Ruff in for Lindy Ruff and it showed up... but I was not able to get another last name to pop up... I typed Melrose and it didnt work then typed Barry Melrose and it worked... not sure why it doesnt just take the last name for all of them..
Oct 12th, 2008 at 16:56 GMT
I couldn't figure out why Barry Melrose of all NHL coaches would be the one most people got, until I realized that they must be checking out the above comment in the middle of the quiz! Kudos to Sporcle for these NHL-themed games since I sure as hell can't do the baseball or football ones.

They need this game for Fa premier league
Oct 12th, 2008 at 21:44 GMT
Barry Melrose is the most known because he is hockey...at least his mullet is. And he left ESPN to coach again so he's probably got the most coverage recently.

this has to be one of the quizzes with the lowest percentage of complete correctness (or whatever). don't know anyone who can get all these.
Oct 17th, 2008 at 14:28 GMT
^^^Agreed. I'm a diehard hockey fan and I only got 20/30. Well, officially it was 18/30 but I knew that Therrien coached Pittsburgh and Vigneault coached Vancouver, but I couldn't spell their names properly. There are a lot of new coaches this year and I wasn't even aware of some of the changes.
Nov 17th, 2008 at 23:41 GMT
Substitute Rick Toccet for Barry Melrose since he has been fired by the Lightning.
Nov 25th, 2008 at 01:46 GMT
Denis Savard was fired by Chicago 4 games into the season. New coach is Joel Quenneville
Nov 28th, 2008 at 19:46 GMT
Yup. They already fixed Tampa, but not Chicago, which fired its coach a month before Tampa. Odd....
Dec 16th, 2008 at 15:42 GMT
savard got ousted.
Dec 21st, 2008 at 01:27 GMT
Along with Savard needing to be corrected, Laviolette is no longer the coach in Carolina. They fired him and replaced him with former bench boss Paul Maurice.

How can "vacant" have been hired since 2009?
Aug 17th, 2009 at 19:18 GMT
Joe Sacco! Damn..the only one I missed!
Oct 18th, 2009 at 14:31 GMT
I'd like to reiterate Lauro's comment above - it's not accepting "Martin" for the Canadiens coach. It accepts every other last name as best as I can tell, but not Martin.

Feb 3rd, 2010 at 23:33 GMT
Time for another update -- Ken Hitchcock fired and replaced by Claude Noel.
Feb 28th, 2010 at 00:36 GMT
Technically I got 27/30 but I knew the 2 I "missed" just couldn't spell them right.
Jul 21st, 2010 at 20:03 GMT

Feb 22nd, 2013 at 23:35 GMT
Well, time to update this one again! No more Lindy Ruff!
Jun 17th, 2013 at 07:42 GMT
And now Torts, Krueger, and Gulutzan are all gone. I think Hartley was fired too (not sure, though, but if I were the Flames, I would.)
Jun 17th, 2013 at 08:20 GMT
Also, the Sabres made Ron Rolston their full-time coach, and the Avs replaced Joe Sacco with Patrick Roy.
