Larry Centers on this list was the most amazing to me.

Also it's crazy to think Art Monk once was the all-time NFL leader in receptions and now look how many are ahead of him.

Man, I always have trouble remembering receivers. I got half, but only barely. And congrats on your first quiz, irons. I agree, seeing Centers there was a bit of a shock. Everyone (including me) forgets what a versatile player he was.

Agreed, great quiz. And I guess being a Bills fan helps to get some of the harder ones. (Lofton, Moulds, Reed, Centers)

To Bosoxrule: Not many guys get in on the first ballot and last year was his first chance. He should be a lock this year, he was a beast on the field and a quality guy off it.

Carter should have gotten on the first time and it's crazy that he missed out twice. He'll be in soon enough but I agree that it's odd. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Derrick Mason winds up playing this year, I don't think he has officially turned in his paperwork to retire yet, so I would guess that he'll need an asterisk pretty soon like the other active guys.

All Carter did was catch touchdowns? Wow, that means he must have 1,101 touchdowns. I'm thinking he had other receptions, too.

The "all he does is catch touchdowns" is a reference to a statement by Buddy Ryan when Carter played for the Eagles his first couple seasons. It's a joke; relax Vikings fans.

Irons, even more amazing than Monk is that Largent was the all-time leader just about 20 years ago, and now he's down to the second column.

As for Carter and the Hall of Fame, Monk had to wait forever. For some reason they don't take receivers as quickly as they should. Andre Reed isn't in, either.

Also, I think Derrick Mason of the Ravens retired last week. The asterisk should be removed his name as well.

I won't claim to be any NFL expert, but I think the fact the whole first column played in the last 20 years (and almost half are active) is reason enough to be careful in inducting them to the HOF. Obviously the passing game has changed a lot, and there's nothing wrong with the voters getting some perspective on these guys. Simply making 800+ receptions may not be that special if several of your peers did it as well.

@Nuclear_Knuckles: It's kind of like home runs in baseball. You have to be harder on the players, but some people are going to rise to the top. That has to be considered.

spot on Nuclear_Knuckles. Hines Ward is an amazing player with a great career and already two rings with a few years left to play, but I'd hesitate to say he's had a HoF career.

IMHO, "to" should not be a valid option for Terrell Owens... I was going team by team, typed "Toomer" and he suddenly appeared.

Steven - Mason has not filed the paperwork, so since he has a contract fot this season, he's active.

@btroup1: Stop with the facts. It's much more fun to berate the quiz author. I refuse to believe that you can go to espn.com or foxsports.com to validate your assertion. Adam Schefter said he retired; therefore, it's true.

reading this list, it's not clear to me why the HOF voters, when interviewed, say that andre reed shouldn't be in the HOF; they say his spots on these lists are declining over time, but isn't that because the era he played in was a little less pass heavy? and to say that he shouldn't be in because 4 players from a team that never one a super bowl (Kelly, Reed, Thomas and Smith) is too many is a ridiculous reason to keep someone out

Marvin Harrison is not currently on active rosters for an NFL team, and Eric Moulds has not been on an NFL roster for more than a season. Even though these players technically may not be retired, I don't think they should be listed as "active" players.

isaac bruce, marvin harrison and eric moulds are not "active". Isaac Bruce retired this year i believe.
