"That guy with half a foot" should be an acceptable answer. No one really remembers his name.

I agree that dates should definitely be included here.

I remember Dempsey's name....but I also live in New Orleans/am a Saints fan so I'm pretty much required to...we don't own much history.

Deceptively difficult quiz. I got Dempsey and Elam, but drew a complete blank on the others. I remember Bryant's now that I see the name; Gruden threw him out there at the end of the first half of that game on a total "Well, let's see what the hell happens" when they had the ball at about midfield, and lo and behold he made it. I was kind of hoping when I saw this quiz that I'd get to type in the name of one of only two NFL players to have played football for my alma mater (RIP WWU football program, by the way), Michael Koenen. How many names would there be on the list if it was 58+ yards?

@Mitch - Bryant's kick was a game-winner at the final gun.

My mistake :( The other details are correct though, no? And there's no final "gun" in football ;)

Maybe add the 59 and 58 yarders. That would add a lot of kickers, but there would be more slots.

If Rugby was a real sport and not some retarded tug-of-war, then it would be included.

Got 4, forgot Bryant... I'm not sure "Anderson" should count for Morten Andersen, since I was thinking of Gary Anderson (though I would've gone to Morten next), but I guess it doesn't matter much, since if you thought of one, you probably thought of the other. Anyway, neat little quiz.

What? I make one mistake in the detail of my comment and I get negative points? Why? Christ, if I could delete it, I would.

Amending (after deleting) my previous comment: http://www.databasefootball.com/leaders/career_fgl.htm Four 59-yarders, three 58-yarders, seven 57-yarders, etc. I wouldn't be against an extension of this quiz to the 59- and 58-yarders, but I'm totally fine with it just how it is, with a nice round number and an exclusive list.

I was at the game in which Bryant beat the Eagles with that last second kick. I was sitting next to an Eagles fan who, obviously, did not enjoy it as much as I did.

The only reason I remembered Tom Dempsey was because he was missing a few (if not all) toes on his kicking foot and wore a very odd shapes shoe. The NFL created the "Dempsey Rule" in 1977 because of him.

I missed Cox, whom I've never even heard of. Oh well, I'm happy getting 5 of 6. I remembered four of them right away, and eventually guessed Andersen after running through a gauntlet of names.

Brunswick, Dempsey actually wore a square toed shoe and kicked straight on. Elam, who shares the record actually kicked 2 feet longer but due to different measuring only ends up sharing the record with him. Elam has stated that had he realized the implications at the time, he would have moved that extra foot back to the next hash mark.

the answer to this quiz is no longer correct, as of 12/27/09 there is a 7th. Sebastian Janikowski hit a 61-yarder for Oakland against Cleveland.

Poor Steve Cox. If there was ever a quiz where, after I was all done, I knew which answer had been guessed by the least amount of people, this is the one.

You should do the quiz where you give us the guys name and we have to guess how long the field goal was.

When Janikowski kicked the 63-yarder, I was in my car heading out of Oakland after hockey practice. I was, at first, like, "Wow. He's gonna try from that long?" Then I remembered: He was on my fantasy team. I went nuts when he made it.
