I'd be interested to see what the most common incorrect answers to this quiz would be.

My prediction for most common incorrect answer: Lions (we did have tigers and bears, oh my!)

Perhaps a quiz with all D1 schools listed individually? Basketball might be too many, but football only has 120 teams or so.

For those wondering which ones just missed, with 3 schools each: Broncos, Cowboys/Cowgirls, Highlanders, Jaguars, Mountaineers, Terriers, Lions, Pirates, Cardinals and Hornets.

Isn't Bison in itself pluralized. I don't think there is such a word as Bisons. Kind of like Fish.

I agree with Matt for all D1A (Football Bowl Subdivision) team nicknames. And make it so you have to click each one - not where you type in Lions and all Lions answers appear...

Matt and Carlton, this other quiz is easier than what you're looking for, but it's a similar idea: http://www.sporcle.com/games/ncaateamnames.php

@Russell: I am familiar with that quiz, I'm pretty sure I only missed DePaul or something like that. I just want to be tested as to whether or not I know all the lesser knowns, I surely cannot be alone in this.

how about a little love for FCS (I-AA)??? it's packed with weird nicknames (salukis, paladins, mocs, blue hose, chanticleers, flames, phoenix, catamounts, blue hens, etc.) it'd be tough, but awesome. or how about a quiz on just the weirdest names in all of DivI (FBS and FCS)????

I know I won't see my alma mater (Kansas Jayhawks) here. My high school was the Lions; I'm surprised more college teams don't use that nickname. All I can think of are the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Ironically, the Nittany Lion is of course, a mountain lion, from the Nittany mountains. This is similar to the Vermont catamounts. Mountain lions are also called cougars. I know that they shouldn't be lumped with cougars, but it's true that there is a decided lack of lions. Perhaps it has something to do with how dismal the Detroit Lions perform. My poor beloved Lions...

I'd like to see the list of schools nicknamed bulldogs. For the life of me, I can't figure out the 13th. I've got Georgia, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Fresno State, Drake, Butler, Yale, Bryant, Alabama A&M, The Citadel, Samford, and South Carolina State - but I just can't think of who the 13th is? Does Western Illinois count, because I've always referred to them as Leathernecks.

James Madison is the Dukes, though they use a bulldog in their logo. The 13th might be Gardner-Webb, who call themselves the "Runnin' Bulldogs". Separate comment: this quiz should accept "Bison" in addition to "Bisons". Three of the four schools with that name don't have the ending "s". Either that or it should be removed from the list if Bison and Bisons are counted separately.

How about a quiz where we name schools whose nickname does not end in S?

As a BC grad, I'd be interested to know whether we were counted with "Eagles" or "Golden Eagles" I really hope it's the former.

There's only one "Bisons" (Lipscomb). All the others are "Bison" (without the added "s").

I come from ACC country, where most of the nicknames are uncommon ... Cavaliers, Terrapins, Tar Heels, Demon Deacons, Wolfpack, Hokies, Seminoles, Hurricanes ...

Darn golden eagles. Do you think you're better than the eagles or something? Almost got Bison, but for some reason tried variations of buffalo instead. Colorado threw me on that. @eatmorepossum - Try coming from Big Ten country where the only common one is Wildcats. You're not going to find very many schools named Illini, Boilermakers, Hoosiers, Wolverines, or Badgers.

9 schools go by Wildcats, but not a single team is called the Thundercats? Garbage.
