Wow. Would've never guessed the Lakers guy would be ahead of O'Neal, Bryant, Chamberlain, Worthy, Johnson, Abdul-Jabbar, etc.

You do know that the "Lakers guy" is one of the best basketball players of all time and is actually the man in the NBA logo right? Plus half of the people on your list played on other teams for a chunk of their careers.

Oklahoma City is not correct. As part of the deal for the Thunder to move from Seattle, all the Sonics' records and history stayed in Seattle. The answer for Oklahoma City should be Kevin Durant. Payton could be a good bonus answer for the Seattle SuperSonics.

Very good quiz. And excellent point by TA as well. Quiz probably ought to be modified. But it's great otherwise! Only 21/30 so I'm back to the NBA classroom...

I agree with Tim. Similar problem with Wilt for Golden State and Oscar Robertson for the Kings. Even if it's the same "franchise", neither player ever played a single game in those cities.

@emh well true they never played in those cities but the new cities took over all the old cities records so they are the correct answers. Where Seattle kept all the Sonics records and stats and OKC started with a new record book.

Actually, the city of Seattle and the Thunder organization BOTH got the history. While I have some major issues with the way things happened, Gary Payton is technically the correct answer.

Not gonna aruge with Tim... but here is the source.. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/OKC/leaders_career.html If it needs to be modified I am all for it.. just not sure since this site puts them all together

As a Sonics fan I was pretty upset to see Payton's name for the OKC Hijackers record. While Kevin is correct, Payton has said himself that he doesn't want his jersey retired anywhere other than Seattle, and I'm sure he doesn't consider himself the OKC leading scorer. I agree with Tim that would be a better bonus answer.

IMO they can make any deals they want, but Oklahoma City is obviously the same franchise that was in Seattle last year. Same thing with the Baltimore Ravens being the same franchise as the old Cleveland Browns. The new Browns are an expansion team.

And as a Sonics fan you should be happy to see Payton's name listed. If they want to rewrite history and pretend his team doesn't exist anymore, no one will see his name at all and the team's entire legacy gets forgotten.

Great quiz, I was surprised at how poorly I did. Never would have thought of Nick Anderson or Dell Curry. How about a little Buck Williams love?

Nobody said pretend the history didn't happen, but the history should have stayed the sole property of the city of Seattle. When the Grizzlies fail and cheap-ass Heisley sells the team, they'll move it to Seattle, call it the SuperSonics, hang Payton's jersey from the rafters, and forget that some team called the "Grizzlies" ever existed.

NK - the Browns are an expansion team, but they have all the records, awards, etc achieved by the 'old' Cleveland Browns.

I realize that, which was my point. The old Browns are in Baltimore now. That history should belong to them. But the Ministry of Truth has told us the new Browns are the old Browns, so everyone just accepts it.

26/30, only missed the truly obscure (sorry Buck Williams, Dell Curry, Randy Smith, Hal Greer). Only got the Suns leader scoring by trying to guess Baron Davis for the Hornets

sammyhain2364: I acknowledged as much in my comment. At the very least, the quiz should be modified to list all the teams that were part of a franchise.

@Tobin Williamson: going along on what john said, "lakers guy" is one of the greatest pure shooters in the history of the nba. you should be ashamed of yourself for calling the guy in the nba logo "lakers guy"

I don't understand why the NBA could've had OKC relinquish the history and records of the Seattle Sonic, just like what the NFL did with the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens fiasco. Now the Sonics records will be shared with not just the OKC Thunder, but any new team in Seattle (expansion or relocated). That is asinine and can be confusing to fans.

You guy getting onto him for calling the Lakers answer "the Lakers guy" are being dumb. He was trying to not spoil the answer. It's a common practice here on Sporcle. Everyone knows how good West is, get off your high horse.

@crazedinnorcal - The shared history was part of the lease-breaking settlement between the organization and the city. The NBA had nothing to do with the decision (although they theoretically could have pressured Bennett into leaving it).

The one that surprised me (though I eventually guessed the right answer) was the Cavs. Here's a team that's been around for nearly 40 years, and the guy who holds the record has piled up his points in only five seasons (and is still only 24). What a special talent!

LOL. Brian, you and I missed the same 5 (I didn't type in Baron Davis). I may have got Curry if I hadn't already guessed Durant for the Sonics/Thunder. I was thinking leading scorer since they hit New Orleans and tried most of the current guys (Stojakovic, Paul, Peterson)
