This list is littered with Duke bums. Sickening.

Don't complain because Duke gets bashed. They're bashed because they're the best. Remember this is coming from a Virginia fan: Ralph Sampson was THE best college hoops player ever. If it weren't for a bad knee, the common saying would be the "Ralph Sampson of (sport)," not the "Michael Jordan of (sport)".

Most of these guys became solid pros and many were alltime greats. Looks like a higher correlation to pro success than the Heisman

I thought Okafor won Player of the Year in 2004, are you sure that's right?

And ElDavo, if Duke is the best, then why do UCLA, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Indiana have more titles then them?

Get ready to add Gerald Henderson to the list when Duke grabs the title this year.

It wouldn't be the Ralph Sampson of basketball instead of MJ. Sampson was a great player and one of the best all-time, but there have been alot of good centers in the NBA, and none more dominant than Wilt Chamberlain, but you don't hear Wilt's name mentioned above Jordan's. Of course, Wilt's talent wasn't really appreciated when he played, either, but it will take more than a Herculean effort to ever unseat Jordan as the best ever.

Bryant, there are multiple basketball player of the year awards, and none of them is THE dominant award like the Heisman is for football. It's quite possible Okafor won the Wooden Award or something else...but I'm too lazy to check.

I wonder if part of the reason Heisman winners aren't as successful in the pros is because there are essentially only two positions which ever win the Heisman. When 90% of the players don't even get considered, there's a much better chance an undeserving player will win.

Great quiz! got all 40. I would like to see an alumni quiz for NBA players where the quiz gives you the NBA great and you have to name what school they attended. That would be a fun one.

No, people don't hate Dook because they're better than everybody else. Long read, but this is a fantastic summation of everything wrong with Dook: http://terrapins.wordpress.com/the-anti-duke-manifesto/ Only real objection with it is the idea that Shane Battier isn't a good NBA player. He is.

38/40. . .missed 1993 and 1995 and then saw the answers and felt really, really dumb. Probably the best I've done on one of these quizzes in a while.

The one that is actually demonstrative of program quality, the regular season title? UNC. Oh, you meant the crap-shoot where you only need to win three games. Figures all the Dookies can hang their hats on is the little mini-playoffs that nobody outside of them cares about.

try telling syracuse that no one cares about conference tournaments! this year, and in 2006, they greatly aided their tourney resumes with their deep runs in the big east tournament. you can hate on duke all you want, but have a legit comeback.

@pat - My point was that the regular-season title is more indicative of the best team in the conference. The leagues attach their auto-bids to the tourneys to make them meaningful, and while a run can certainly enhance a team's standing with the committee, 16 or 18 games tells you more about a team than 3 or 4.

Excellent point Pat. Until the ACC makes the conference champion the regular season winner, Duke is the Conference Champion. Just think all you haters out there, this could be a year where K wins not only olympic gold but NCAA Gold. All the haters would be pissed then.

i know the regular season is important. i was just playing devil's advocate, misguidedly hoping that it would end this silly duke argument. yes, they are good, and they have been for a while; but by all accounts, they run a clean program, so it should be no big deal. meanwhile, i think we might as well put blake griffin on the list now. when i saw him play live, he didn't look so good, but his overall season was stellar!

What was that about Dook winning it all this year? But hey, they can raise a Sweet Sixteen banner this year, it's been a while since they've made it that far.

Hilarious someone thinks Ralph Sampson was the best college player ever. That honor belongs to Lew Alcindor.......three time NCAA champion who lost a grand total of ONE game in three years playing varsity basketball. Ralph Sampson lost to freaking Chaminade. The reason players are called "soft" today is if they compare to Sampson.
