	There's a lot more monsters that could be here. Nemean Lion, Stymphalian Birds, Geryon, Orthus, Charybdis, Scylla, Lamia, Talos, Ladon, Typhoon, Echidna, and that's just Greek/ Roman. Garm, Skoll, Hati, Fenrir, Jormungand, Hel, Angrboda for Scandinavian. And plenty plenty more.

	well, there seems to be a little inconsistency -for example, Cerberus is a specific, one of kind mythical creature. Same with Pegasus - even the sirens and the gorgons are one of a kind (they might be trios, but I am pretty sure that there were only ever three gorgon sisters, or three sirens that worked together). It would more appropriate to create two different quizzes, one for anonymous mythical creatures (cockatrice, phoenix, elf, boggart, shinen, etc) and one for actual, specific creatures - Cerberus, Nimrod, Fenrir, Charybdis, Nigghod, Tiamat, etc.

	@Jackie: I think it depends on who you read/ view. Egyptian sphinces: Human head only. Sophoclean sphinces: human torso. Ultimately I would go with your answer.

	I don't think Medusa should be accepted for Gorgon. That's like accepting Ariel for mermaid.

	@nearlyextinct: Again, it depends on who's the source. The one in Oedipus Rex is female, but archaeologists speculate that the one at Giza is a representation of the pharaoh. I'm not sure which one it is, although I could look it up if need be. Tutankhamen perhaps? By the way, nice Tasmanian Devil.

	@Kr!s: Medusa was the only Gorgon who had snakes for hair, which she received as punishment from Athena. Until then, she is said to have had beautiful hair, like her sisters Stheno and Euryale. So if you want to be pedantic about it, Gorgon shouldn't be accepted for Medusa.

	Nice quiz. This is the second Sporcle I've missed Cerebus on because I can never spell it. Only got Chimera thanks to the Women's Murder Club, and missed sphinx because I thought it only had a human head, not torso. As for Basilisk, I don't think they mentioned the poultry part in Harry Potter. Might've got it otherwise.

	nthing the idea that a sphinx has a human head only. When most people picture a sphinx, they think of the one in Egypt, and that one definitely has only a human head.

	Couldn't speel most of them but knew them all, and technically, a basilisk or cockatrice is a bird's egg that was ferilized by a snake according to mythology... Also, pretty lame def. for dragon considering the fact that dragon is an overall term for many creatures such as the hydra, basilisk, chimera, and Fenrir

	A bit too Greek-centric! Might be more challenging if it took account of broader ethnic traditions. Jormungandr, the chicken-house of Baba Jaga, Finn's Salmon of Wisdom, fun stuff like that. Also -- from what source are sirens "bird women"? I don't recall anything like that in Homer -- I always had the impression they were a variety of mermaid....

	I only got sirens because of a guess based on some tidbit I'd picked up about some version of them being bird-like. The rest was rather easy, though. I agree with those suggesting additions of non-Greco-Roman monsters.

	for the record, Pegasus is A winged horse and not the name for the species. the species is called "winged horses", Pegasus is just the only one that really figures in myths (Greco-Roman). also, the same goes for Medusa and Gorgons, she is one of three and the species is called Gorgon not Medusa. I know, those are the most common but it just doesn't quite fit. ideas for Mythical Creatures 2: wyvern (yes i know it's basically a dragon, but you can find some variation i'm sure); manticore; hydra; Fenrir; hippocampus, etc.
