you should accept just "ozzy" for "The Prince of Darkness", since that's what everyone calls it

How in the world is Parker the most missed? Anyone who thinks they are even remotely well-versed in music should know the Bird...

@gob - I know of Parker as the Bird or the Bird Man but I've never heard him called Yardbird. That's why I missed him. Still, I got 20 right. I've never heard the nickname Bocephus, but I could kick myself for missing King of Swing and Motor City Madman.

@mentos: I was pleased to see him there; my comment was directed at the low percentage of correct answers. Hence why I said, "How...is Parker the most missed?" ;-) @debbie: I completely agree, but was able to pull it from the song "Yardbird Suite". But absolutely, I have never heard him called Yardbird and always heard just "Bird". Either I'm just uncultured or I feel that warrants a change.

Sorry to keep commenting, but upon checking the wikipedia article, it says that Bird is merely shorthand for the nickname Yardbird. Good game Sporcle, you win again.

Isn't Sinatra more commonly known as Ol' Blue Eyes? I'd never heard Chairman of the Board (still got him, mind). The Artist (formerly known as Prince) is missing, too. Great quiz, though, really enjoyed it!

I was mildly surprised that Madonna wasn't on the list, but then I suppose this is "unique" nicknames, rather than 'best known by a certain one'.

Good quiz touching on a variety of genres. I took the longest to remember Ella. There will always be omissions, but this one was a good wakeup on Sunday morning before football.

Thanks to the movie biographies of Cash, Lewis, Lynn, Morrison, Parker; the TV show Night Court for Torme; Gretchen Wilson's song "Redneck Woman" for Bocephus; and Nugent for being a big game hunter & NRA supporter - I did pretty well on this quiz. PS: thanks to Seinfeld I will always know VanBuren is the 8th president :)

Adored this quiz! I had never heard of Bocephus but got the others. I think a great companion quiz to this would be nicknames for fans (parrot heads, etc).

@MovieDynamic (waaay up at top): I wouldn't include Hannah Montana as Miley Cyrus' nickname as much as her stage name. It would be like adding Vincent Furnier. Furthermore, I thought Louis Prima was the "King of Swing," but apparently he was only the "King of the Swingers," the "Jungle V.I.P."

regarding Charlie Parker: Just ask the Manhattan Transfer. In the lyrics of Birdland are these two lines: "Yes indeed he really did/Yardbird Parker played in Birdland." So at least since 1979 Parker's nickname has been in common parlance.

Liked this quiz. Would have had 24/24 if the clue was "Bird", not "Yardbird". I figured "Yardbird" had to be a country artist, since I don't know country as well as rock or jazz. I don't recall ever hearing Parker referred to as "Yardbird"...usually "Bird" or "the Bird Man"

Hey, can I join the "thought Parker was Bird, not Yardbird" club? Although I did get it right, after guessing Clapton, Page, Beck and anybody else that played with The Yardbirds that I could think of.

i never really heard BB King as The King of the Blues rather him, Freddie, and Albert considering the Three Kings (of the Blues). As far as BB individually you would probably be better off using the nickname the "Beale Street Blues Boy"

you should make a sequel though. Mr. Guitar for Chet Atkins, King of the Delta Blues for Robert Johnson, SRV for Stevie Ray...I guarantee some people won't see that connection.

Surprised not to see Madonna who at least for a time was referred to as the "Material Girl". Know it was her song but so was "Piano Man" for Joel.

As to Charlie Parker, at least Clint Eastwood is in agreement with most of us. Because in the biopic directed by Eastwood and starring Forrest Whitaker, his character is called - Charlie 'Bird' Parker and movie is "The Bird" not "The Yardbird".
