	Yeah it specifically states 'HostED' in the description MD. The suffix -ed refers to past tense, hense hosting the event already occuring.

	Can't believe I didn't go for Stockholm, but it really should be at least a bonus (The equestrian games of the 56 Melbourne Olympics had to be held in Sweden due to quarantine legislation).

	In the sense that Greece didn't have ice and snow, perhaps the Winter Olympics, which started not so long after the modern summer games, aren't the "real" ones...but higher, faster, stronger and the glory still apply

	It could be argued that Athens hosted three Olympics. The 1906 games aren't recognized NOW, but at the time everybody considered them part of the Olympics. And really they were a lot more similar to the games we have today than the "official" games of 1896, 1900, and 1904 were.

	Hmmm, I wonder how Athens would have an "insurmountable lead", seeing as the ancient Olympic games were always held in Olympia (there's a clue in the name), which is in the south west of mainland Greece. And, thus, officially nowhere near Athens.

	Three of those seven were Winter Games. Considering the UK has nothing even nearly worthy of being called a mountain, and since you have only one city big enough to accomodate the Summer Olympics, I'd say that's about right.

	I still think that Athens should have been rewarded the 1996 games (100th anniv of the first "modern" games) Too bad the Olympics has gotten to the point that money talks louder than tradition...

	According to the source (olympic.org) Amsterdam hosted the Summer Olympics in 1928, whilst St. Moritz, Switzerland hosted the Winter Olympics that same year. (Switzerland = Alps = Winter Games)

	@dav_uz: While I completely agree with your sentiment, I also feel the need to note that the U.S. is ginormous in terms of both geographic and demographic size compared to the U.K. So it kinda makes sense that it has hosted so many times -- it's full of cities that can be legitimate contenders, and it's also, you know, the width of an entire continent. (And also, London is one city hosting three times. You can't really compare it to an entire nation.)

	@ xetcaf 1956 Summer Olympics were held in Australia (Melbourne), transporting all those horses by ship would be quite expensive, but the decisive factor were the quarantine regulations requiring that the animals should be shipped many months before the Olympics (six months if I'm not mistaken).
